Moment Musical in F-sharp minor

Featured Replies

I came up with this after messing around over the past couple weeks.  It has some pretty sudden shifts in textures and harmony, just looking for opinions if there are areas that sound really off.

Personally, I think this is very well done, albeit short, it's got a good technicality to it, that could be used as a skill-check or audition piece for a pianist!

Reading through this, and being an intermediate - amateur piano-player (I dare not call myself a pianist... lol I only know piano well enough to teach a grade school child how to read hot cross buns, place their hands properly, and play using both hands while reading both clefs. Other than that, my skills in piano are lacking, but I understand it, at least! lol) It appears to be very challenging, and on top of that, sounds like it would be a blast to play, once rehearsed properly.

I don't see, off of a quick first-time read-through, anywhere that needs attention, from a technical stand point. I'm also an autodidact composer, so I may be overlooking some things, but all-in-all, I don't believe anyone reading this to play it would have a hard time comprehending what's written. I think you've done well 🙂

Much appreciated!  I myself cannot play the piano at all so your comments about its playablity are particularly helpful.

Hi @bkho

I like this short piece!  I think to continue an uninterrupted musical narrative throughout the whole piece you could have the piece, instead of repeating back to the very beginning, repeat to bar 3.  Likewise, you could repeat from bar 20 to bar 13 instead of to bar 11 like you have.  I think it would really help keep the pacing and melodic narrative going.  The melody that starts at bar 52 made me expect a fugato passage, but you took it in another direction.  Thanks for sharing!
