Beginning of Flute Trio

Featured Replies

Here is a project that I started for a couple of friends and their flute teacher. It's only the beginning, i haven't finished it yet, mainly because that teacher said it was crap (her words).

Well tell me what you think!

What a stuck up, horrible teacher! They should be honoured that someone gave up their time to write a piece for them, I sure would.

I don't think it's crap at all. It is a great start, so don't be discouraged by what the teacher said. I really enjoyed the first six bars, with the trills.

One small complaint, I don't think bars 17 and 18 worked, I'm sure you can think of a better transition than that.

Keep it up, don't be discouraged:).

I think that teacher needs a good kick up the arse. How dare she insult someone's work!?!?!? I thought it was overall a nice piece, although there seemed to be no main melody to cling to it had some nice ideas in there. Keep it up, I say. :)

Your piece is not crap. If your teacher were any good she'd find a way to help you build upon all that is good about your piece and explained what makes it weak. It is a very playful piece. If you can go back and rebuilt the piece on the playful motifs and develop/expand on them you'll have quite a piece on your hands! I also think it would be a good idea to vary your harmonic language in the piece. If you are not yet at the point where you are comfortable stepping out of the diatonic harmonies of your choosen key, then you will have to put some thought into keeping the piece interesting. You could do so by good handeling of your motifs as well determining what kind of form your piece will take. You don't want a piece that wanders nor do you want a pieces that repeats certain element too much. You certainly don't want a piece that is all over the place just for its own sake either.

Anyway, I think you have a good start with lots of potential.

Good luck with it!
