The Beethoven scherzi are celestial expressions... which one is your favorite and why?

Ok

Definately the 9th

Or the 5th

wait...

6th?

Maybe the 3rd

Yes...

The 7th has some incredible things in there!

OH OH OH ! I know!

The 8th!

Yes

Do you see the poll yet? VBulletin is being a bit slow... I like the 8th's scherzo as well. The theory that it's supposed to be a parody of the (newly invented) metronome is neat.

However, I voted for the 4th - it makes me feel like I'm walking on clouds.

I downloaded all the symphonies when BBC had them available for download on their Radio 3 webpage. Are these recordings in the public domain? I could upload all of these if that's the case.

If that were allowed it would be brilliant  If the BBC had them online available for free download I think they must be in the public domain, they wouldn't do anything remotely illegal :P

That's what I was thinking, but they've taken them down and released cds of them..

? Idiots.

Free recordings here:

They butcher all the symphonies, and they don't seem to have the 2nd, but it's... but.. the... is there.. what is there.. the general aural input is there.

Butcher, how so? bad conducting or actually butchering it?

The playing stinks.

ah, damn them.

The trio from the scherzo of symphony no. 2 seems to be the origin of the trio of the scherzo of symphony no. 9, and the trio of that scherzo is the origin of the ode to joy theme. Interesting. So the seeds for the 9th were sown way back then...
