  1. Sir Malcolm Arnold died at the weekend so it seems appropriate to suggest one of the greatest works of a composer too little known apart from one or two film scores and lighter pieces. There is far more to this man than "The Bridge over the River Kwai" or "Tam O'Shanter Overture"
  2. If you've gone off this piece, then I'd love to hear what you're writing now! For me the first movement has a totally unforgettable melodic invention and vitality - I can see that a pianist might not find it very interesting to play but to listen to the piano line is generally Ok if a bit monotonous. The quality of the music more than makes up for any lack of sophistication in the orchestration. Interestingly enough I find the first movement better than the second, not technically, but the all important invention is much fresher.
  3. Mozart on LSD --I really like that, Canzano! by the way, I was trying to get into your concerto in C-minor but the "savefile" link doesn't seem to work any more?
  4. after listening to a few bars of this, I realised Brahms had risen from the grave and I rushed to put this MIDI file into Overture, set it to Kirk Hunter solo strings and the Kontakt 2 piano so i could really listen to it. I'm still recovering from the excitement of hearing something that, to me, is actually even more enjoyable than one or two at least of the old master's chamber works. The level of fluency is astonishing and though I could no doubt find things to grumble about if I really wanted, I don't want to at the moment. This is some achievement! PS if you don't already have a reasonable audio rendering of this, I will happily create a file from my mockup and send you it if you like (I have not changed anything --merely tried to get reasonable overall levels though there are certainly some balance issues) .
  5. the last movement is great fun and for once the MIDI actually captures the spirit of it. The other two movements though I really can't listen to until the .mp3's come along ( I should say as well that my MIDI soundset is particularly bad as only the motherboard soundcard and not my main one has GM support)
