  1. I like this -- my 1st ends with the melody on Ab, so I will probably start the profession from the Ab instead of the Eb.
  2. Thank you!! This sounds great Both songs are slower, slightly hymn-esque pieces
  3. Working on a small piece for string quartet + flute that modulates from Ab Major to B Major. It's a medley of two songs...the first song ends on the pitch Ab, and the 2nd starts on D#(Eb). 1st song is in Ab, and the 2nd is in B Major What is a lush progression that will modulate between the two keys?
  4. I probably should've included this in my original message, but if you guys could also share orchestrations for a modulation as well, that would be helpful. Mine sounds atrocious. Fm → Bbm9 → Dbm(add9) Fm → Amaj(add#11) → C#m9 Fm → Ab(sus4 add9) → C#m9/E Fm → E7(#9) → C#m9 Fm → Amaj → C#m → Emaj(add#11) → G#m11 → C#m
  5. Yes, which I really like...my progression has some of that, but it's not as dramatic as I would've wanted. Yes lol...That was just some material that I had written previously that I harmonized...I tend to write like I'm making a quilt, little sections here and there until it comes together.
  6. I LOVE the section with the triplets
  7. Hmm, why is that? I was thinking about bringing in some NRT and going AbM-EbM/G-Gbmaj9-Dbm But not exactly sure how I should orchestrate that, b/c I liked it on the piano, but in the strings, it's kind of wonky lol
  8. I want to go from Fm to C#m, though
  9. Dramatic chord change from the key of Fm and Dbm/C#m? The change will be happening under a sustained tone, and Ab is that sustained tone... Any thoughts?
  10. WOW!! That was incredible -- wonderfully done Your writing for the ensemble was just lovely. I would love to know what originally inspired you to write this piece. Also, do you have any books on orchestration you'd recommend?
  11. It is possible that I had it muted in the mixer lol I agree, but I'm not exactly sure how to add rubato in on muscscore Yes, still working on this and deciding what dynamics I want where Yikes lol I appreciate the feedback; the piece definitely needs more work. I would love to write some more melodic material, but I love that theme so much that it's hard for me to write new stuff without being drawn back to the same intervals and the same lines.
  12. Any feedback or ideas on ways to help me continue developing the piece?
  13. Audio + PDF score of what I've written so far OBOE.mp3
  14. Here is the French Horn + Bassoon intro/prelude material I was writing. I'm feeling mehh about it, but only because it doesn't really connect to the piece imo. Here is the stuff that I am just in LOVE with though. The way the ensemble creates this movement is just wonderful to me. Still working on filling in the string parts and incorporating the French Horn and Bassoon into these sections with the melody. However, I think that's too big of a start to the piece, so I'm still brainstorming on how I can lead into that -> hence the F.H & Bassoon intro/prelude. Now unto the fun stuff Not sure if anyone is familiar with the work of Pierre Boulez, but if you are please let me know. My idea for this section is to have these big jumps up and down in different intervals and have the ensemble mimic and echo those movements in the rests of the oboe. So that way, we get a very, for lack of a better word, "quacky", and almost disjointed sound. The reason I mention Boulez is because of his piece, "Le Marteau sans Maître", that has the exact sound I'm going for. -> wanting to see if I can create a system that will make this portion easier to write,I want it to be less "musical" than the more elegant (only word that's coming to mind), lyrical section. (This would be coming after this part)
  15. I will fix the parellels Yes and no lol - I liked the bass doing that contrasting figure (rhythmic wise) with the half note and qtr note, and I liked the 5ths, so I just kept it in. It's not super bad, could definitely be smoother, so I'll edit that spot. Thanks! Thanks for all your feedback
