    To my knowledge, Ives experimented in heavy polytonality and music that was so densely contrapuntal at times that it obscured a sense of center. So not 'tonal' in the traditional sense. But... I wouldn't call anything by Ives 'atonal.' Another problem obviously being that 'atonality' is very loosely defined and subjective. piano moving ottawa
