  1. I like how it builds up to a climax but changes ideas instead. I feel like this would be quite fun to play! Being fun to play is one of the things that makes pieces famous amongst performers. Very nice key changing too ^_^ You know what you're doing.
  2. This is my first attempt at a symphony... actually it wasn't even an attempt at a symphony, it was more like something I randomly wrote which fit into the description of a symphony XD But only one movement. And it's not finished, I've run out of time, holidays are over now :( I have LOTS of ideas, and I always start a new idea, and it links to the last in no way at all XD So it didn't work at all in the beginning, just a bunch of ideas. So i cut out about 2mins of music, spent ages writing bridging sections between ideas and hopefully it worked ok :/ Please tell me what you think. Oh and this composition of mine, more than any other I've ever done, suffers from midi =P And playing it in Finale changed a lot, the last section loses it's power. EDIT: I forgot to mention the title. I wrote the initial theme about half a year ago and stopped. Then my friend Arda came over and he really liked it so I continued the piece for him. He likes evil music... so I made it evil :P Symphony____Arda___Mov_1.mid
  3. Yes it's a brilliant build up and it gets very intruiging when the full orchestra comes in. I liked the way the piano repeated then got faster and stuff. The woodwind wasn't a very nice at the beginning though. hang on... the mp3 is like a completely different song XD!! The piano is playing a melody, in the midi it was a repeated note. Maybe you were using a different midi channel or something. Anyway the mp3 is amazing. You're very lucky you got the oppotunity to record your music! My school doesn't even have a single orchestral instrument XP So I'm very happy that you're using this great reasource you've been blessed with.
  4. XD is there a bass guitar in the second one? anyway.. I like them. All I know about medieval music is the notation and that they used modes =P The thid one sounds quite modal, but not so much medieval. I like the mix of instruments used in the fourth. I think Foco is done quite well except the high voices are horrible XD If it was another sound it'd be a lot nicer, but they play nice melodies none the less. So far Indicame is my favourite. Sounds more medieval at least than the others so far. Probably because of the Gregorian Chant. Shambala scared the s**t out of me XD It has a loud first chord thing. Pretty good for one of your first. Usually firsts are more melodic rather than chordal. CNZNTT conveys poverty well. The sad atmosphere is maintained well. Sounds like you're using the pentatonic scale in some bits. I think it's my new favourite :P Cyclops gets quite interesting and seemed like it was getting boring but some how kept my interest :) ooh I like 1:40 onward. This is my new favourite XD! Daym this one's awesome. Ousara... you sure like to choose odd instruments :) Ummm... comments about this one... Cyclops rocks! :) It's pretty annoying when there's so many things in one post, people don't have half an hour to spend on one person :P But I felt sorry for you and wanted to hear some medieval music ^_^ Good jobs.
  5. I didn't really know what this sub-forum was about but I liked this. Is this like experimental? Made me think of a slow techno XD Maybe if you doubled the tempo and added a duff duf beat it'd be a no.1 in the techno charts. No offence though :P I loved it!
  6. It's amazing that this is the simplist. How did you just jump into composing without building from simple beginnings? I did the same - though my most complicated is no where near as good as this - and now I'm considering writing simple, like child songs, so I get a better grounding. Definite Chopin influence from the get go as cavatina said. It's truley beautiful and more rubato from a live performance would make it more so. I agree with Derek though in that it needs a contrasting section, Chopin always had one and it always gave way for a refreshing return of the theme. The theme wasn't very prominant in this and I like it that way, I feel a night piece shouldn't have a dominating theme, takes away from the idea of background music. I envy your talent :P
  7. WOW! I really want to learn the piano part, it's beautiful. I'd be very proud of that if i were you.
  8.!!! That was amazing! It would be so powerful to hear it played live. Brilliant stuff.
  9. A lot of work went into that, and it's great! I think you have a nice unique style. What's AS though?
  10. It starts off a bit slow but I like how that creates a good contrast between the quick major section that comes up; and it doesn't sound out of place either, it's a good transition. It /was/ nice ^_^ Creates a very calm, pleasant mood. But I think it could get tiresome for some with a short attention span. Try making them more short and sweet.
  11. Very Beautiful! I look for ward to hearing the rest of them. I think you could have made it more harmonically complex in your progressions and such but it's a good start, I'm sure by the time you finish you'll be pro at the romantic emotion
  12. Wow, that's amazing. I'm a classical guitarist myself, it's hard to find good classical guitar pieces to learn now-a-days, keep it up! I think there's a real flaw in modern classical guitar compositions. You seem to have what it takes
  13. I like how the bass sounds like the footsteps as you enter the house in the beginning ^_^ Nice and steady. I would love to hear this on a real piano, I have a personal love for the echo of really low notes on the piano :o It's a very loud piece, I thnk if it were to be played in real life it should be more delicate to suit the beauty of it's theme. Lovely ending  Very beautiful piece. Well done.
  14. ^_^ I'm in my final year of highschool too, are you doing ext. music as one of your subjects? I have to do two major compositions for it :/ It'd be cool if we were in the same boat XP And continuing from my last comment... the tension really builds as it goes on with the bass drum having a huge impact. One thing is that it sounds a bit too triumphant toward the end considering it's after someone died and the murder is regretted. Reminds me of a strategy game piece. But I don't really know what's happening at the moment, I mean you said the music comes on when the woman is killed by mistake, is this during the realization of what the murdererhas done? or while he's running away? or simply with the dead body and the murderer gone. I think it's a very dramatic piece which sounds great, but could it be made to sound more sci-fi and maybe be more shocking, as the progressions seem too slow for being after a murder.. unless, as I said before, it could be the representation of the murderer realising what he's done, but then the triumphant section doesn't fit. If I seem like I don't know what I'm talking about it's because I've never had experience with film music  It's so great I bet you could still win with it, but if they're at your standard, then wow O_O! Pretty high standard competition.
  15. :o Thanks guys. I think I avoided them because they're not what all the great classical and romantic composer's sounded like XD I think I'll try to embrace them more now. I didn't mean me playing the music when I said that it didn't make sense to write for an instrument if you can't play it, I meant like writing something that's literally impossible to play  I did that a lot when I was younger, though it sounds cool, it's just because it's fast or something, not because it's brilliant. An example of this is with this short piece I wrote a few years ago. It's flashy and exciting but the piano was exagerated only because I sucked at using the composition program and wanted it to be louder and didn't know how to put timpani.. so a chord of 20 or so notes had to be my timpani XD Evil.mid
