  1. Thanks to everyone who answered this thread, I have gathered all the answers I was looking for. :)
  2. That's quite helpful. Thank you.
  3. Thanks. I was wondering more in terms of is there a set number of movements or a general format? (ie. tempos of movements etc.)
  4. I hope this does not seem like a stupid question to ask but is there a definitive format when writing an instrumental quintet? All of my music books as well as google are not being any help in turning up answers.
  5. 1. Which software do you use? Finale PrintMusic 2008 2. Do you use it for composing or simply to typesetting? Sometimes I use it to compose directly and other time I will figure something out on the piano first before orchestrating in Finale. 3. If you use it for composing, do you find that it helps the creative process? I find it is a massive asset because it allows me to hear the way the instruments sound together while I am writing. 4. In what ways does it limit your composing in either the short term or the long term? I find it limits me in the sense that I am relying on the software instead of my imagination for the most part to give me an idea of what different instrument combinations will sound like in different situations.
  6. Only one word to describe it...Breathtaking
  7. Thanks for all the help everyone.
  8. What if i'm writing it in transposed form then how should I go about it?
  9. Thanks alot. One more thing, if I layed the oboes and english horn out this way, would I have to write the english horn's transposed key signature or should I simply write it's part in concert pitch?
  10. I can't exactly resize it because i'm writing it by hand and the largest score paper I have right now is Carta No. 20.
  11. So if I layed it out in such a way that I had one person playing piccolo and bass flute, would that be an acceptable use of sharing a staff?
  12. Hey all, I was just wondering if due to space restrictions it is permissable to write parts such as flute, piccolo, bass flute and oboe/english horn on the same staff. Normally I would split the parts up but there is not enough room on my score paper to do this.
  13. That excerpt from your opera is absolutely gorgeous!
  14. Thanks for all your help, it's very much appreciated. Just for the record my idea is to combine a symphonic orchestra with 6 percussion parts. The parts being: 1)Timpani, 2)Glockenspiel and Chimes, 3)Xylophone and Marimba, 4)Tuned Cowbells and Tuned Gongs, 5)Cymbals, Snare, Bass Drum 6)Temple Blocks.
  15. So the gongs are specially ordered depending on the notes you want to use?
