  1. This piece reminds me of a kind of theme music for a show. I agree with Axon on that second piano arpeggio. It's the second note that is incorrectly flat. Besides that, it's sounding great!
  2. I was thinking I create a more memorable beginning and have the rest of the song just for those cool people that'll listen to the whole thing, haha. I tried LMMS and it's really unstable... at least on Vista. =( Thanks for the Reaper link, but my friend was able to let me have a copy of FL Studio. I hear people say that it could be better, but is good enough for newbies like me. On that topic, I can't figure out how to stop the popping coming from when I play my MIDI in FL Studio. I'm pretty sure that's because it's making the peak meter go past the red the whole time, but I don't know how to fix that. Does anyone know what's going on?
  3. It's too short to say much, but I don't feel the anger. It makes me feel as if there's not much time left, if you know what I mean. As if something has to be done... and quick. This is mainly because of the mallets at the beginning.
  4. As benxiwf said, the drum beat seems to be setting up for something big. I'm thinking you loop those last few measures (from :30 onward) once and have a big five eighth note crescendo of snare and bass drum and, of course, a big crash on the downbeat of the next measure. You should then build on that horn theme, possibly making much more fanfare-like. I'm just throwing ideas out there. What you have sounds good so far.
  5. I can tell you I thought the same thing about the volume of the synth at :12... I just didn't have a way to do it until now. I'm trying to figure out how to work LMMS that CheeseLord linked to. Now that you mention it, it should have been pretty obvious to make the beginning of the piece really good! It's just now that I realized that's how all video games do their game over music. I'll work on that. Your advice is much appreciated. It seems the most important thing I have to learn right now is how to use note velocities! I'm on it.
  6. As I made it in a simple MIDI creator, I couldn't change the velocity of each individual note D:. Once I figure out how to work a DAW, I could see that as possible. EDIT: could => couldn't
  7. Haha, I think you're talking about the MIDI Goblin Pad. Thanks for the comment and link for the DAW! I'll try it out.
  8. I'm glad you like it. More accompaniment, you say? I'm glad I added those backing parts or else it would have been really bare, haha. I wish I had at least a MIDI keyboard setup, but I don't. Anvil Studio has a little piano that is clicked to get whatever notes you need... almost like a piano roll. So I just click, click, click.
  9. Not to steal attention from melodicSmiley's theme, I have one of my own. A piece written for a "game over" or similarly sad situation in a video game. Very few instruments used. I created this a while ago and just came back to revise it a bit with added strings. I don't have a DAW and create all my work in Anvil Studio. I then converted it to mp3 with a different instrument set. Game Over
  10. It sounds very good. It gives off the impression of a "game over" very well. Everyone before me has pretty much said the most important things, but I have something to add. For me, the ending was too soft. I thought the song was over prematurely. Even if I liked the quiet ending it felt extremely sudden.
  11. I really like creepy-sounding pieces like these! Overall it's pretty great, but at about 33 seconds in I'm confused about which part should be the melody. Like what Marius has been said before me, some EQ/panning/reverb work would help a lot. I'm thinking the ending should actually be a transition... a transition to a much more intense with aggressive percussion, haunting strings, and a mysterious... almost sudden ending. That being said, the ending you have makes more sense since it's supposed to be someone's theme music.
  12. Thanks a lot for your advice and I'm glad you like it. We're hopefully going to be playing at a gig sometime soon and it's nice to know that someone appreciates my work. When my band has played in public in the past we have seen many confused and disapproving looks and heard many bad reviews simply because of our strange style.
  13. Well, I still need to write lyrics and then my band will perform this song. Sadly, we don't really have the option of recording right now. I can turn it into a .wav and .mp3 file, though! Here's the .wav And the .mp3
  14. I've just added a revised version of The Siren to the top post! Sorry it took so long. What do you guys think?
  15. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still working on revising different parts of the song and will post it when I'm done.
