  1. Hey, did you go to Interlochen? I remember your name from Zae Munn's composition class. I was a composition major two summers ago. -Cool piece, sweet modulations, great ideas -m.452 for courtesy, change clef to bass -Clean up your score, space it out more, there are few run overs (m.240) Good luck on the competition btw, I am not sure if you remember me but I was the boy with the dred locks
  2. can you post the score?
  3. Hey maelstromtempest, Good job!! I like how the different movt show different styles, well, if that is what you were aiming for. I liked how you traded themes from 1st Violins to 2nd and vise versa. I heard Mozart in Presto, Mozart-Vivaldi in the second and full blown Vivaldi in the last. Im sure your future performers would have lots of fun playing this especially a young group. Again, Good Job
  4. EDIT: Dynamics, Tempo, Bowings, etc ... Check First Page!!!! Hi Qccowboy, first off... Debussy is THE MAN!! That whole tone passage was kinda dedicated to him. anyway, I've decided to make Witch's Dance the third movement. I am working on the second movment where I am using themes from both movements for a better transition. I added Dynamics and Tempo markings to energize the two pieces so it should sound better. Btw, thank you all for reviewing and listening to my work, I came on this site thinking that I wont get any reveiws, but I recieced an acceptional amount.
  5. Hi Paginani, If you take a String Quartet by Philip Glass or Ravel or whoever and remove all dynamics, how would that sound? I thought of that as my school's string quartet played Sketches. I thought they would have their own interpretations on where they should ritard, play softer, louder, aggressive, but I was wrong. So as they rehearsed I added dynamics where neccesary. Now it won't sound like if the gestures are all random. So, thats what im working on right now (for Sketches) Witch Dance Thank you, It is supposed to sound chaotic but most parts are jolly and 'bouncey'. Cello and Viola are more percussive in this piece and violins carry out the witchy personality Haha!! I find the pizzicato part in m.40 fits. It is more like a response to the previous measure. Hmmmm..... maybe it does not. Im definatly working on dynamic and tempo markings for this piece. I'll post the new scores when I get a chance to complete them. btw,Yeah, I should comment on other pieces...
  6. Thank you Jamie! About the PDF, I know how to convert sib. to pdf, its just that the pages come out as individuals. String Quartet #1, since my school's string quartet is playing this and being at their rehersals, I added a few dynamic markings, tempo markings, bowings, etc... so that high part in the violins shouldn't be so annoying after I edit everything. Witch Dance, I would love to hear this piece live myself. I still figuring out how to adjust the dynamic volume on sibelius but, there are dynamic markings in the score. There is part, on measure 20 where everybody has an "glissando improvisation" which I find kinda hip in this piece. btw, I have decided to make them seperate pieces.
  7. Ok, I scorn midi sounds.... here I might get a recording of the 1st mvt, its going to be played at Lincoln Center for a chamber music recital sometime in January. Witch Dance-String Quartet #2.mid String Quartet #1 ~midi~.mid
  8. I've been listening to a lot of string quartets on this website and only a handful of them seem to be original. Most of them give me this feeling that the composer is trying to be another Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi... I havent posted much but I have been listening and observing scores. anyways...... i'll introduce myself......... I'm Aja, 15, and West Indian-American (i'm black!:D) and i'm putting together an "audition portfolio" for a high school I hope to attend junior year. These two pieces are part of my portfolio. I don't have a private teacher so I came here.;) btw, Micheal Alfera still around? I met him over the summer:cool:. 10. Hi, This piece came about this morning while I was practicing Sandra Dackow's (I think thats how you spell it) arrangment of Dance of the Tumblers on my Viola this morning and it sparked an idea for me so i went on my piano and improved on the idea a bit, then went on sibelius and wrote what I had. Hopefully when it complete my school's string orchestra can perform it but i dont want it to go on stage soundin like crap and notation is out of order and everything so please....... help a brother out!!:) Dance of the Strings.mid Dance of the Strings.sib
