  1. Good investment of your time, I'd say! It sounds more like exploration or wandering to my ear, but it definitely evokes a scene. I found the ending a little less satisfying than the balance of the piece--no abrupt ending, but rather a petering-out. But film music can be like that right? Really nice, wandering, piece with thoughtful orchestration throughout. Great work! --Jim
  2. Welcome! You definitely succeeded in making something upbeat. It' seems uniformly "active" across the piece--maybe you could use a change of pace here or there. Is the "flute" meant to hold the place for voice? --Jim
  3. Very straight-forward piece with an appropriately cinematic feel to it. For something that wants to be "epic," the orchestration is a little light--until the end. But overall, really good work! --Jim
  4. Very nice work! The impression I got was that of tortured contemplation. It seemed to me, during the course of listening, that there was something climactic on the way that never really got there... But it did reach a kind quiet resolution. I think I'll have to listen again... --Jim

This is a light, lyrical orchestral piece I did in response to, "make something happy!" Most of what I churn out is melancholy, but hopefully this comes across as more upbeat... It's just a theme repeated with variations in the instrumentation. I got the title from my impression of a morning bike-ride through a European countryside. As usual, made using Logic 8 and no promises as to the usefulness of the score. Tuscany
  6. Thanks for the input, Fiend. Between you and Orpheus, I have a much better handle on this piece and where I can go from here. I got to the point where it just sounded done, but something was missing... I uploaded the score. A blanket caveat: I can't read music, so I'm at Logic's mercy when it comes to notation--and it's a real struggle to create a presentable PDF...
  7. Thanks for the feedback, Orpheus--good ideas! --Jim
  8. A rather brief, haunting piece for solo viola and strings. The inspiration for this hit me one day when I was driving home and listening to a news story...I might come back to this and work out something larger, but until then it's a kind of free-standing interlude. Please let me know what you think. I welcome any criticism, but please put things in simpler terms--I'm a near- musical illiterate...Made using Logic, with the Symphony Jam Pack and Kirk Hunter Solo Strings.Note: Score uploaded--no promises on whether it's right or not... Viola and Strings
  9. Thanks for the feedback! I gravitated to Logic because it seemed the next step above the Garage Band that came with my workstation. Being a complete novice, I have no idea whether it's the right app for composition/playback or not... What is the standard/usual? --Jim
  10. A rather fun, jaunty piece! To my ear, it gets a little "lost" around the 1:00 mark, but it gets quickly back on track. Nice work! --Jim
  11. I started this piece with the third section, but as I worked out what I meant to be a small intro, it just got longer and longer. No deep meaning in this piece, just stream of consciousness... I tried printing the score. I couldn't jog the layout properly and sections kept getting cut off. Since I compose using the piano roll, I can't vouch the musical notation being right anyway... Let me know if it's even in the ballpark.Made with Logic 8, the Apple Symphony Jam Pack and Kirk Hunter Solo Strings. Gateway Suite (WIP)
