  1. Sounds great! Really looking forward to how it turns out. When is this needed by?
  2. I know you said you could handle the bass parts on your own, but for the sake of variety in the chorus I could sing bass 2 if you would like?

Strangely beautiful, I love this piece. I hope you get a live recording of it someday.
  4. Very nice! Really enjoyable, the only real quarrel I have with this piece is during the second section of the trio; everything seems to become muddy when there are two voices simultaneously playing triplets, but I blame this on the samples used. By the way, what samples/library ARE you using?
  5. Thanks for the reviews! Could anyone point me in the direction of a good online tutorial concerning form, or a book that I could buy?? I would really like to improve this, as this seems to be one of my biggest weaknesses and it's so essential. Any help would be appreciated!
  6. Thanks for the responses! Peter_W ~ This was actually composed to be sort of an "impromptu" piece, thus the lack of a clear statement of a "head" and chorus. I just composed it to send to my aunt as a birthday gift, so no commercial use is intended. This is actually me on keys, which explains the scarcity in the left hand: I've only been playing a bit over a year... I really don't know much about jazz form (though I learned quite a bit by just reading your post!), so this was done primarily by ear. As for the emptiness at 1:08, I completely agree. Perhaps to address the issue of monotony in the bass line I could allow it to go off on its own tangent for a bit. Oh, the possibilities that are coming to mind! I am taking a course on music composition this coming semester, so I hope to really build a more solid understanding of form and development, as it seems to be one of the things I lack in most. Do you know of any websites that give tips on comping with the left hand while improvising on a head in the right, by chance?? I would really appreciate any help, I really want to learn. This was done with Acoustica Mixcraft, an excellent recording program for its price ($65!). Thanks again for the response, I'm inspired to improve on this piece!
  7. An arrangement based on two familiar themes that I wrote for my aunt a few months ago. Short and simple, but any suggestions to help improve are welcome! Happy Birthday, Aunt Janice!
  8. Myyyyyyy entry!! I really don't have a score editor, I had to do everything in Guitar Pro which doesn't allow for musical directions, but you can see what all the instruments are doing. Hope you like it! http://www.youngcomposers.com/pg/Music/paquijote/composition?entry=46186
  9. This is my entry for the June Competition. My idea was attempt to portray a sort of early-music festival improvisation, with each instrumentalist exhibiting its own interpretation of the main theme. I was pressed for time towards the end of the month, so it didn't turn out exactly as I would have liked, but I'm still proud! Any suggestions/comments are well appreciated! Festival (June Competition Entry)
  10. This is awesome, very catchy and enjoyable. I listened to it twice. As Alex said, the harmonies were a bit predictable, but the song as a whole made up for it. I love the chorus (??) and the bridge in D major. The transition from the bridge to the final of the song sounds a bit cheesy to me, with the Emaj triad being literally outlined in the melody. Perhaps you could keep the harmony there but have the melody do something else? Great work here!
  11. Really, really awesome stuff here! Very interesting melody(ies) going on, the repetition within the piece mentioned by Phantom may very well serve to be a benefit were this used in a videogame!
  12. By the way, this is the first competition I've joined here. Do we just post a link/upload the music file to this thread? Also, is it necessary that sheet music accompany the music file?
  13. Sounds fun, count me in!
  14. Really beautiful, simplicity at its best!
  15. Gorgeous, DJ Fatuus! The only thing that I would suggest is to experiment around with just a tad bit movement within the inner voices. I know that too much movement will detract from the aesthetic you were aiming for, but a little would spice it up and even enhance the sound you wanted!
