Melody Assistant from Myriad

Featured Replies

Is anyone familiar with this company?

I downloaded their Melody Assistant program and then ordered it over the web to get the registration code.

Other than getting a receipt from Pay Pal I haven't heard a thing from them in over a week. No registration code, no nothing.

They haven’t responded to a single email I’ve sent, and I sent one to every address I could find for them, including using their web site. But thus far I haven’t heard back from them. Does anyone know if they actually exist anymore?

They got my money! It’s only $20, but still. I want the registration code so I can use this program.

Anyone have any experience with this company? I love their program but I can’t use it to its full potential until they send me the registration code. So far, it’s like they don’t even exist. I think they are based in France?

I mean, I don’t mind waiting if they’d at least send me an email and tell me that something’s happening. But as it is right now it’s like they don’t even exist. :shifty:

Here’s their web site:

Ouch.

Hope it's just a glitch, it would suck if you got burned by some scam focusing on innocent musicians! Let us know how this pans out.

I can't believe it would be a scam. The web site is too complete for that, and I did down load the trial version that already puts Finale's Notepad to shame even without the license code. What would be the point in having people down load a trial version just to rip them off of 20 bucks?

It can't be a scam. There's got to be something wrong. Maybe they are sending me emails and I'm just not getting them for some reason? Or maybe they went out of business and left their web site up? That doesn't make much sense though.

I don't know?

That's why I started this thread. Surely someone else out there has experience with this company? Maybe I can relay communication to them if it's an email problem?

I just want my registration code so I can use the full features of the program.

:shifty: Good point.

It doesn't seem like a solid business plan to ignore your new customer's though - hope you manage to get this sorted out.

*shuffles off to check out the website to try and help*

I am an unconditionnal user of myriad product! I only have "melody assistant" which is like the "little bro" of "harmony assistant"... but personnaly it's way enough!

Yeah, it's really only some bucks, and I find it better than Finale and Sibelius (which I both have and sometimes use...when I need to convert to .mus or .sib)!

Positive points:

User friendly

A lot of articulation and ornamentations

A lot of options

Effects, custom instruments possibility

Soundbank (slightly better than GM) included with possibility of purchasing their Gold soundbank for some few bucks (I don't have... and personnally wouldn't recommend it)

Cool little community (sharing, contests, etc.)

Negative points:

Visual aspect of score (when printing) is pretty ordinary...

File extension is ".mus" which is in conflict with Finale!

wow, I've been using the trial version of Harmony and it's so much more manageable and intuitive than Finale.

I'm considering paying the full $70 for the registration but now I'm not so sure :)

I really hope you were not scammed.

I really hope you were not scammed.

I don't see how it could be a scam. They obviously have a program to sell.

I'm not really suspecting that it's a scam. But I am wondering what's going on. Normally when I've purchased things on the Internet I get a "Thank You" email immediately with confirmation of the purchase and a note about when it will be shipped, etc.

So far I haven't heard a thing other than getting the PayPal confirmation of payment, but that came from PayPal not from Myriad.

I don't know what to think. Unless it's some kind of fluke email problem. I've never had any problem emailing anyone before. But it's been a whole week now and I've heard nothing back. This is just not right. There must be something wrong somewhere.

I'm kind of hoping that someone else bought a copy and could tell me how long it took before they got their registration code.

One thing you might want to do is email them FIRST, and see if you get a reply BEFORE you order it. I should have done that myself.

I just want the code. I agree that it seems to be some fantastic software. I just bought the Melody Assistant for $20 it seems to have everything I need, I'm not sure what more Harmony Assistant offers for $50 more, but it just didn't seem to be worth the difference for me as I am just starting out composing as a hobbyist. Melody assistant looks like it's going to do everything I need, (if I ever get a registration code for it).

I'll certainly post my progress in the matter if and when I ever hear back from them.

I'm wondering how long it took christianc to get a registration code? Did they just send you the code or did they actually send a physical CD of the program in the mail? If they are sending me a physical CD in the mail that might take some time to get here, but you'd think they'd still have sent me an email confirming the shipment.

I just want to use the program.

It probably goes without saying, but if you have a spam filter in your email, make sure to check your junk mail in case their replies have been caught by the filter.

It also appears their website has a forum. Have you tried posting there?

Hmm, that's strange I got my code pretty quickly when I ordered from them.

Maybe there's a holiday in France? :)

I posted to their forum just today.

I have no clue what the problem is. But I do understand that they process orders by hand and so now I imagine I'll have to wait at least until Monday again. I hope I hear something by next week sometime.

Did they actually send you a physical CD of the program? It sounds like they might do that, but to be honest I have no clue what to expect. I'd be happy just to get the code.

I have worked with myriads products before. I tell you they're not worth the trouble. Being a Europian program, it's not near the sound quality/workability as most decent American programs. On a European computer maybe, but not American.

Well thus far I haven't had any technical problems with the actual program.

And the sound quality has been fantastic! Best I've heard yet. Especially for anywhere near the price.

Well that's good that you're happy with it then. :D

Have you tried some later versions of Finale? GPO? EWQL?

I'm just composing for fun as a hobby. I'm not about to spend hundreds of dollars on a sheet music program. Melody Assistant is only $20 and it appears to be doing fantastic things at that price.

I've only used the demo for about a week and it may have bugs, I just haven't found any yet. As long as the program doesn't crash it seems to be doing everything I need right now.

I certainly HOPE that Finale is better at over ten times the cost! It damn well better be! :D

I mean, it would be pretty pathetic if a $20 program would outdo Finale woudln't it?

The sound control in Melody Assistant is phenomenal. You have complete control in the score with many articulations that are observed by the program, plus it even has a live mixer with graphic volume levels that you can adjust while a piece is being played so that every instrument is precisely where you want it to be in volume.

You can even record your own instrument using a microphone and it will create a new instrument using that timber as a template. I haven't done that yet, but it sounds interesting since I actually have a piano, violin, guitar, flute and clarinet to experiment with.

I'm super impressed with what I've seen thus far and I've only had the program for a week and I'm still using it in demo mode!

Only time will tell now.

I have no complaints with the program. I just want the registration code so I can unlock its full potential.

Well, it doen't have the greatest looking printouts for score. But other than that, no complaints here yet.

Oh ok. I understand.

I'm not aboot to spend hundreds either. I'll make my parents do it. :)

I finally got the registration code via parcel post.

Yeah!

Evidently, they’ve been getting my emails and sending replies but for whatever reason I never got them.

In any case, I got the registration code and I’m up and running now.

I just saved a piece I’m working on in mp3 format. WOW!

I’m impressed! The sound quality is fantastic!

This program is absolute amazing for the price. It may have bugs, but I haven’t run across any yet.

Now I can get back to work composing!

This is GREAT!

Special thanks to MonkeysAteMe for bringing this program to my attention. :)

Good for you! I look forward to hearing some of your music. :)

woohoo!
