August 11, 200719 yr This is probably the longest I have ever forced myself to focus on one project. I've spent more then a week on this one song (however, the actual time I spent writing this song is only about 5 hours) and didn't allow myself to write anything else until I finished this. Why? Because usually when I write something with a hint of originality in it, I usually end up just giving up on it and gonig on to a different project, never to return to it again. I was determined to finish this one..............and the final result. Well I can't really desribe it. You'll just have to listen to find out. This isn't my best piece, in fact it may be one of the worst I put out in this last month or so. But at least it has a drum solo :). Anyway, any feedback you guys could give me would be appreciated. August 11, 200719 yr Nice groove. Nice use and variation of electronic sounds. This is leaning towards Tsuyoshi Sekito as a pose to your usual Masashi Hamauzu influenced pieces. (Had to look up how to spell there names.) I like the feeling this gives off with all the unique sounds. Interesting piece.
August 11, 200719 yr Author Thank you. It was my goal to experiment with different, and somewhat unusual electronic sounds in this particular song. I wanted to see just what kind of crazy effects I could come up with by trying different sound patches and pitch bending variations. I also wanted to experiment with a wah-drenched guitar, since I've never had much luck writing wah based guitar riffs. Out of this whole song, the only thing I can say that I am actually proud of is that wah guitar riff. Anyway, before I ramble on too long, I am glad to hear you liked it, or at the very least thought it was interesting.
August 11, 200719 yr I liked this, it sounds very primal (in a good way) to me. I think it would be cool for a post-apocalyptic video game/movie. Maybe I'm just saying that because Im watch The Terminator right now
August 12, 200719 yr Author Thank you. Yes, it does have a post apocalyptic vibe, doesn't it? That's not actually what I was going for but I have no problem with people interpreting my muisc differently. Anyway, glad to hear you liked it.
August 12, 200719 yr I enjoyed this quite a bit. You are learning an important character trait that will serve you well the rest of your life. Self-discipline is one of the hardest of life's lessons. The media's heroes like Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohen are prime examples of what can happen when you have no self-discipline. It is a shame that these type of people are set up by the media as role models. What I found refreshing in your piece was that your arpeggios didn't all go to their expected destination. You ended them with great timing which helped to set up the next set of notes. This is a simple piece that does not get tiring nor overwhelming, and would work well in a game. For 5 hours, this is great. For each movement of Cusp of Insanity, I spent 30-50 hours (A lot of that time is just listening over and over) trying to get each note to be exactly what I wanted. Often times it helps to put a piece on the back-burner for a month or longer, revisit it with a new perspective and then fine tune it.
August 13, 200719 yr Author I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the piece. I actually wasn't sure if you would like this one. So, it definetly was a pleasant surprise to see that you did. Thank you for feedback, Ron.
