I wrote an arrangement of America for a July 4 Sunday weekend church service. Its for soprano saxophone and string orchestra with Harp. This version is with instrument. September 1, 200719 yr Not a bad arrangement! There are some pretty cool unexpected modulations! I think the version for the oboe (saxophone) right at 1:05 is kinda corny but the rest is very nice and uses very cool string accompaniment and creative harmonies and modal exchanges! Piotr

September 2, 200719 yr its interesting, do by chance listen to any jazz or have any jazz background, the chords/ modulations sound like you have an idea of some jazz harmonies, especially the last chord. I think for the church setting this works pretty well, its not bombastic (which would be a pain to hear at the crack of dawn). I"m listening again around "56 where you're modulating i'm not so sure if i'm fond of you following the melody literally, it works but i hear it just steering away from the general direction of the melody there. actually now that i listened to again (for the fifth timeish) i think its the fact that the strings don't line up rhythmically, so you hear the end of the modulation after the sax gets there , basically i think the last three beats of the melody line should line up with the strings as well, just unison rhythm. then you started a descant line in the sax and then joined back up with the main melody around 1:26 then it came back in around 1:37 i'd have the sax keep doing the descant line but maybe follow the contour of the melody. and the ending is just a little suspect with the intro idea coming back in. a MM7/9 chord at the end? its cool but leading up is the prob. the strings need one more chord before the final one, a Vish type chord, then resolve to the last chord. but you can still have the sax play over the chord before the last chord. But its a very nice arrangement, put up some other stuff when you find write some new stuff.
