Gotta Catch the Train!!

Featured Replies

Hi,

This piece is more for fun than anything. Here's the scenario: the character wakes up late, looks at the alarm clock and realizes that he/she is will miss the train. Rush ensues. Can you guess what happens at the end?

Hey, very creative piece. I love the imagery! The ending is hilarious. Very Jazzy. The high part sounds almost improved. Would it be in a performance? How long did you work on it?

Overall, very enjoyable!

Cheers,

Evan

WOW! I love this work! And I don't say that about many pieces on this site. The image is captured perfectly. Great job! My only confusion was the ending. What happened to the guy? Was that him slowly jogging to a halt as the train sped off, or was it him sitting down on the train and drawing a needed breath?

johannhowitzer: Well, I don't want to spoil it but umm.. your first guess was right, he missed the train. Kudos!

Evan: The piece took three days. And yes, the piece is mostly improved on the keyboard. I made it after listening to jazz music and studying some of its chords. First I improved the bass line, played by the left hand. The high part was improved next over the bass line. Then the second day, I editied the piece to make it less atonal, added the chromatic run near the end, and added the ending. On the third day, I rearranged some themes, added dynamics and here it is.

All in all thanks again for the nice feedback! :D

I can play the piece well, but as it is winter vacation, I don't have access to a piano, only a keyboard (w/o key sensitivity :) ). Maybe I'll post a recording this month when I return to college. I don't know if there's any place where I could have this performed.

I've been thinking... I can only do so much with my senior recital because there are certain requirements to be met. I may try to do an original-piece concert at someone's house (not mine, I wish I had a piano), and since I haven't got many compositions of my own, I might look around on here and pick a few I really like - in which case, this'd probably make the cut.

I keep listening to this, it's addicting, and I keep noticing things I like about it, things that go along with the title.

That would be wonderful. If you choose to perform it, I can send a PDF.
