Sadness

Featured Replies

I am currently working on a piece that will depict sadness. I am trying to find some works that depict what sadness sounds like. Can anyone give me the name of a piece that they believe depicts what sadness is? Thanks alot.

Seriously?

Prepare for the Moonlight Sonata onslaught.

One of my favorite Beethoven works, is the second half of the moonlight sonata. I never considered that the first half was sad. If others agree, than I really do not know what a sad piece is!!!

Thanks for the input.

There is a song called "Sadness"

from the Original Soundtrack of Phantasy Star Universe (Video Game)

ill e-mail you the mp3 if you give it.

I'd love to help Ron, unfortunately my knowledge of sad sounding songs is limited to videogame songs and ballads. Neither of which I really think you are looking for. One thing I have noticed about sad songs is that they are usually incredibly simple and very tonal. You seem to favor atonal music but try writing something that is almost completly in a minor key. I personally have always liked C Minor. Also, another thing I noticed is the simple instrumentation. The saddest pieces I have heard have always had just a few instruments. A piano and a flute or violin would go nicely together in my opinion and I think simple instrumentation gives a piece a more lonely feel.

Requiem For A Dream?

Is that piece Sad?

Or is it "Epic" or?

I dont kow which one but to me... it brought me to tears listening to it for the first time.
