A forest Theme.

Here's a forest theme I did out of boredom. Comments and critique would be appreciated.

Try to be more careful with your harmony. Song isn't going anywhere. As for mixing, your strings are too loud. Soft strings are better for a forest theme, xylophone is a good choice.

Don't use too much octaves. Try to broaden the melody over different chords. Don't just use one chord per measure.

Rhythm is too static, make it more variable.

Dissonances are creative but not very appropriate for a forest theme.

Your spectrum of used frequencies is too narrow, try to use the entire orchestra in both high and low tones. Also use a better bass line + melody. You sometimes just play a terts without any other notes, it gives an empty feeling. It's good for chamber music, but for orchestral music it is too shallow.

Before anything else slap some reverb it and see what happens. If things don't get better, try some of katchum's suggestions. Katchum is right in saying that the strings are too loud, and they seem to close too the listener. Also, make sure you're panning your instruments in a normal seating arrangement, or at least something... all the instruments are pretty much coming from the center.

Good advice, but make sure you listened to the lo-fi one though, that's how it's suppose to sound.

after listening to lo-fi i still think the strings are too loud.

Is this for a game on GBA?

No, why?

Seems a little uncoordinated, and it doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere either.

You might want to try a little more directive with your writing, you know, plan where you're going to take the piece and then follow the plan, that's how I compose and improvise

And some of the instruments seemed kind of out of place in the writing too, the pizzicati for some reason was really really loud, even in the lo fi version

It's a good start, but it really just needs direction

No, why?

cause in lo-fi it sounds like it's coming from a GBA. It makes the song sound good, in my opinion.

Interesting. I do get the mood you were trying to create, however I think it might be a good idea for you to try something a bit less ambitious, then work up to orchestral writing. Maybe just start by writing a piece that involves 2 or 3 monophonic parts and try to concentrate on creating good harmonies between the instruments. Good luck.
