"Invasion of the Universe" Now w/GPO

Featured Replies

This is the 1st movement of my newest symphonic work. This work depicts 2 universes colliding, be they big or small, some parts get torn apart while other parts just feel the pull of the collision. I am working on the final movement now, but have already completed the 2nd and third. The link below is to symphonic piece part 2, but it is really the 3rd part and the link embeded there is to the 2nd movement.

Michael

I took your advice and toned down (and removed some of )the strings and like the outcome. Thanks!!

here is the link to the 1st (newest) movement

see your sleep thread.

You can say stable beginning but can't say seems?

Sequence but not looks?

,, means your from another country?

Get real and be a man

Wow, this really is very good Ron. I have already commented so I'll keep it short.

Glad to hear some of my advice helped. Definitely hear more sectional clarity. Your main theme in this work is outstanding! It fits perfectly into the "universe" context of the piece - so wondrous, mysterious and yet beautiful. As it, the main theme, comes back into focus during the end, after the transitional chords, it feels like an old familiar friend that makes you comfortably smile.

Michael

you rejected my comment is your choose , but .. i just say what i hear , that is all ,, i never tell lie for comment ... that is real me . it really look like copy from the machine , your music always look like that , it is your style . but i dont really like it ,,

my work -sleep is a very private work , it help me to sleep at night , but i just want to share with you all guy , i already know it would have some bad comments . but that is my work after all ,i should post in here and see what reaction you would act

this is a very very special music, i have never compose music like that , i want to cut the melody into some pieces by timbre . and i also want the the music is very wide and almost anything inside , so , i try to cut off the harmony , that is the reason that music is quite rare and new ...

so .. if you still want to scold at me something ,,, then i can do nothing , and i am sorry

but i never want to do something bad in here , just want to learn more

i had a mistake for multi accout or something , and i said " SORRY" forgive me

but my aim is not a bad aim , i just want to learn more ...

thank u

yes

i agree

i am a girl

Michael

i will not frighten what you resisted my speech in my real heart

i will also not tell lie , for example , Qccowboy ,s work is very very great.. i really print it out to study proudly ...

i wont lie

Is this QC?

You do a good job at developing the melody to it's fullest in this piece and the melody itself fits your theme rather well. You expressed feelings of tension, humor, peace, and emptyness nicely. I was wondering how long this piece took you to make?

Thanks Bob for commenting

Usually I try to add in how long it took to do a piece, but I wasn't exactly sure because I did it just a little at a time.l This one got started the last week in Sept. and finished when I posted it, which makes 3 weeks. Which doesn't answer your question without being more specific. I would study for a while, compose for a little, study some more..... My best guess on this one is around 15-20 hours all told. So that makes say 17 hours on this movement, about the same on the 3rd movement and the 2nd one I flew thru at about 7 hours total. I am working on the final, I have about 3 minutes so far and I have about 10 hours into it so far. I think the last movement is going to be about 7-8 minutes, so about another 10 hours should get it.

Thanks again

Ron

Hi Rolifer!

Nice energetic pizzicatos, and interesting brass

Rolifer, just to clear up any potential misunderstandings:

FemaleComposerAngela is a composer from HongKong.

her English is not strong, so yes, it takes a bit of time to understand some of what she is trying to communicate.

And no, she and I are not the same person.

I have a number of questions/comments about the score:

what is your reason for placing the 2nd violins above the 1st violins for the entire opening and closing sections?

is this meant to be single woodwinds, single brass, and sectional strings?

The forte section in the middle will not balance in a real-life scenario with single winds against the rest of the orchestra you have. The only way to hear the woodwinds in that context is to bring them into their very strongest ranges, and even that is no guarantee against the brass and a full string section. The sound will be very thin.

Which is a major part of the problem for most of the score - the orchestral sound will be thin, which I don't think is your aim here. The material is potentially very rich and dramatic.

What pushed you to use an unconventional scoring? (instead of a more standard "woodwind by 2s, brass section, and strings" format)

I thought the sound of the mp3 was excellent - one of your best works with a lot of quality in the material. This piece creates a good mood with a satisfying ending.

I see from the comment by QC that there may be problems with a real orchestra playing this. Is a solution to split the strings and have some double the woodwinds to add volume while retaining the tonal colour of the woodwinds for these parts?

it seem .. not a stable beginning

Yeah, actually I liked the beginning, because of the theme of the piece...cool work!

Sorry it took me so long to get back to everybody, but homework has been piling up on me.

Fredrik

Thanks for the listen, it has been a long 6 months waiting to hear from you again. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I am pleased that you liked this one.

QC

I didn't do this in 2's for the reason you stated, I was afraid that the winds would dissappear, so I figured to doulbe them.

As to the 1st and 2nd violins, all I can say is that I missed that. I get so engrossed in the music that some of the more technical aspects get lost in my stream of ideas. This I am sure stems from my lack of training. Thanks for pointing out these errors and thanks for commenting. I always appreciate your feedback. I still do not believe that Femalecomposerangela is female or from Hong Kong.

Herb

Thanks for listening. When are you going to post a new one? It has been awhile and I wasn't sure if you were still around.

JBmusic

I am glad you liked this one as well. Thanks for taking the time to let me know as well.

To all again

All musicians enjoy feedback on their works and thanks to all of you for the help.

Ron

Ron,

I am IMMENSLY TOUCHED by this work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I understand correctly (correct me if wrong):

1. You don't actully have huge knowledge of music. You never studied theoritical studies.

2. Yet you come up with those amazing music themes.

I will admit that not all work for me (your music I mean). The sadness theme realyl didn't work for me at all, I will confess, and I did gave a lot of listens because it's you, and hoping to change my mind.

This track has 2 elements that are MOST IMPROTANT in all music (3 actually):

1. It is totally coherent. I dont' know how you wrote it, but this is 1 piece. It's not melodies put together, it's not tiny piece, it's not improvising totally. This is plain obvious. you worked on this, and I can feel the piece flowing ALL THE WAY, which is something that even professional composers lack! BE PROUD OF THIS!

2. It is non tonal in a beautiful way. You are not tonal. It appears that you don't know how to be tonal, which at your age, and your listening experience has turned out to be an advantage! I would never say that to anyone bellow 25 years of age, but you're above 50! You hav eearned your right with your age alone! (no, not with your age alone, but with your music!)

3. Orchestration. I see perfectly well where QCC stands with his comment about the 2nd violins, and I do agree with him on questioning. But I also have a rule in my teachings: If the student can provide sufficient reply he is right! gently caress all I know! gently caress who I am! If he can convince me then it's ok! And you did! It may sound as a lame excuse or whatever, and me as an excided school boy, but I'm not that, and it's not lame! you did it for a purpose! You may not be 100% aware to what you're doing (orchestration wise, or if you are let me know), but it simply is BRILLIANT!

This track has left wonderful impressions to me!

I would urge you to find help around, to make a perfect score and take it to competitions. Or if not that, to amateur orchestras. It's easy to play, and is new and exciting! You are in such age and I would simply love to have the energy that you do.

I just hope that the members of YC boards will see you as a model (in the creative part, not the living part, by all means!)

It is just wonderful to see people so passionate, so in love with what they do, so dedicated, so loving their counter members!

:)

I just feel excited after listening to the track for 40 minutes now! Ask box.net if you want!

I just wish I had a little time to render it myself into a better track, but it is impossible, trust me! I hope, and ask sincerely that when you get your new toys, you press on and work on this track first, and ask for feedback (CGEmpire is filled with pros as well, with midi knowlegde so you will get advice in there as well, as well as in NSS, and in here). :) Don't let this piece oblivient. Please! :)

EDIT: lol on the femaldangelcomposer thing... this is the internet, Rob, she could very well be a pron actress, or Yo Yo Ma for all we know. :) I knwo Michel, and she's is not him! hahaha! (that made me laugh!)

Yo Yo Ma? Where? :p

Even though I don't share Nikolas' enthusiasm (I like the next movement, which I'm listening to now, more), this was immensely enjoyable. I don't know where you get your inspiration from, age/instinct... but Nikolas is right when he suggests you work on producing better scores and sending your work to competitions.

this piece right here makes you one of my favorites on this forum. your creative output and content amazes me and i think that you convey what you are trying to say so well and clear. i loved the stringed lines in measures 90-ish and you never got boring. i think you link different coherent ideas magnificantly, and well, seems like everything else has already been said. congradulations on such a creative work of art. hope to hear more soon! :D:D

Well... I guess it's time to get out there and comment on other's music. This is very interesting to me, and I feel like it conveys itself very well... I must admit that this type of music has me very confused and some times I find it very hard to follow, but it was quite impressive even so.

I feel like I'm gonna have to get out there and really let go to try my hands at this type of composing... Needless to say, I found this very encouraging, I'm interested in listening to more of your work now... Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. I am slowly updating my music with GPO instead of the sibelius instruments.

Wow!!

I missed this before and am sad I did. You really made my day!!!

Thanks again

Ron

I'll have to admit, I didn't really see two universes colliding. It felt more like one universe, because the whole piece felt like one coherent unit. It didn't feel sectional at all, which is really amazing. It was atonal, but not extremely dissonant, perfect for a spacey kind of feel.

Very cool piece.

I hate to call you monkey but....

Thanks for the reply. This is just the first movement of the piece and I think colliding universes become more apparent as the piece progresses.

Thanks again
