Highwood Falls

Featured Replies

A quick setting the scene:

Highwood Falls is capturing the emotions behind a forest in the highlands that is just above a huge waterfall. At the top of the waterfall is a dam which is to high for you to see beyond. You'll need to get to higher ground to get pass it. This is your primary destination...

This piece took about 28 hours. Tell me what you think.

Thanks for listening.

Hey Bob

For the 4th Movement for my Invasion piece, so far I have about 25-30 hours put into it. The 2nd movement took me about 5 hours the 3rd about 10 and the first (composed in that order was about 20 or so. I am only half way thru the 4th movement.

I have seen people post stuff here that they did in an hour or so and it shows. I can see the 28 hours you have put into this. It shows in the quality and the total package is outstanding. The Tamborine is perfect!!!

What kind of set-up/libraries are you using for this?

Very well done!!!

Ron

On a side note, I re-rendered Jaunt thru the Woods and think it works better now.

Also

There is a site you should check out. It is a site for gamers/musicians/artists. A friend of mine is a moderator there and they have some great competitions as well.

Thanks alot, Ron.

First off, I'm looking forward to that 4th movement so keep up the good work.

Secondly, I'm glad you like'd this piece and I'm glad the time and afford I put into it is showing. For your question I used EWQLSO and about 4-5 hours of mastering & editing. I think the woodwinds stood came out very nicely because I used 2's: Flute & Oboe (I like the rich sound of these two...), Clarinet & Oboe, and for the first melody climax (before the brass) Flute, Oboe, Clarinet.

I registered for the CGEmpire site and I'm thinking about enter the "12th CGEmpire Music Competition." :P

I'll check out Jaunt thru the Woods.

Very good music...I really enjoyed listening to it. I don't know to explain my thoughts about the piece very well, but I just wanted to tell you that I really liked it! :)

I liked it for the most part, listening to it made me feel like I was climbing up a waterfall face or something and also a slight tiredness/frustration. It was very good for what you were trying to capture.

:)

I liked this piece alot. It does give off the feeling of a huge majestic water fall. I would have liked to hear some kind of solo flute melody in the last theme where everything quiets down but other than that, I enjoyed it.

That's ok that you can't explain. I'm just glad you enjoyed it.

You've managed to express some of the feelings I tryed to put into this piece. I'm glad you liked it.

I thought about the flute solo idea, but instead went with strings and 2's: flute with oboe because of the woodwind climax before the brass. Just a personal choice. I'm glad you took the time to bring it up anyway and I'm glad you liked the piece overall.

Thank you everyone for listening and for those who don't usually post on my pieces thank you for deciding to express your opinion. It is greatly appreciated.

I liked everything, the only problem for me was the melody. I'll just leave it at that. Short and simple.

Maybe a little to simple, but that's ok. I'm sorry you didn't like the melody, but I had a feeling you wouldn't mainly because you like melodies that are very catchy and simplistic like Uematsu's works. That's not a bad thing though, I'm just not that good at it which is why I instead decided to work more on varying the melody in my pieces.
