January 11, 200620 yr This writer and I crossed each other's paths(we are on the same development team) and got an idea to make a soundtrack arrangement of 10-15 songs for a game that doesn't technically exist(it's still in the design stages). So, the first song I worked on was the main theme, which took about 5 days to do I think... but I can't be too sure because I usually worked on it when I could barely stay awake anymore(best time I'm inspired). Anyway.. .I know it's a big file(over 5mb) but please try and give it a listen as I spent a good amount of time working on it, not for me but everybody else that enjoys listening to music. http://www.zackparrish.com/dead/MainTheme.mp3 Peace, Zack
January 12, 200620 yr :o That is amazing! I love how it pulsates. Brilliant transition between sections and a very well integrated tango bass line in some sections (that's what it sounds like at least, I really like it ^_^). I think you really know what you're doing percussion wise. YOu sustain a fantastic mood throughout, with a nice pleasant decrease in excitement toward the end. I would play this game for sure! How did you make it an mp3?
January 12, 200620 yr Author Thanks for the comments. As per your questions on what I used to make it... Sequenced it using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, loaded samples using Gigastudio 3 Orchestra. Samples used... Kind of a mixture of everything.
January 12, 200620 yr Hey Zach, Nice piece. Really impressed by the recording and your use of instruments. Also liked the transitions... nicely done. The only thing I didn't care for, in my opinion, is the cymbal rolls. Too many for me and a little bit cliche. Please keep posting... I don't mind the DL time. Don't feel bad about posting nice MP3 files. Creating the MP3 with Gigastudio is an art form all its own. If you have time please check out my music on this web site or my own site www.miserymadebeautiful.com. I too use sound libraries with the Gigastudio. If you use anything by Gary Garritan you should check out www.showprogramming.com Michael
January 16, 200620 yr Wow. This song was definitely worth the DL time. I'll also definitely play the game! ^_^
January 17, 200620 yr Author Server might've had a hiccup or something. Works now as I type this but you never know... could get indigestion later... Thanks for all the feedback, really appreciate it. Think I might put this in the serious critique forum or whatever it's called. Could use a good hammering.
January 17, 200620 yr The theme is great. Nice orchestration and melody, perfect for a movie or game. Nice use of the samples too! I'm quite interested in knowing what kind of soundfonts (or samples) you used in percussion. I'm looking for exactly the ones you used.
January 17, 200620 yr Author Onearmedbandit - PM me your email address and I'll email it to you, that or holler at me on AIM(CBlockDis) and I can just do a file transfer. Listened to your song(Alpine something isn't it?). Really cool stuff. If I get more time I'll make an in depth review of it in your thread. Agnor - Here's the breakdown as I remember it... Sonic Implants Ensemble Spiccato Sonic Implants Ensemble Con Sordino West Gate Studios Clarinet Dan Dean Flute West Gate Studios Oboe PMI Bosendorfer 290 VSL Orchestral Percussion(Bass, Gong, Crash Cymbal) Westgate Studios Percussion(Bell Tree) Project SAM True Strike(Suspended Cymals and other miscellaneous effects) I think that's about it. The majority of these samples came with GS3 when I bought it in some 17gb bonus sample package. The only samples on there that weren't from that package were the True Strike(got some free 24-bit demo set from SAM's site), Westgate Studios(bought the woodwinds, got percussion from their site), and... that's it. Everything else came with GS3. I tried finding that same package I got for a friend but apparently it was just a promo back about 5 months ago that's not available anymore. Anyway, thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. Peace, Zack
January 30, 200620 yr Hi there! I REALLY like your work! PLEASE, do post more when you get it done. Great orchestration! M
January 30, 200620 yr Very good stuff. I loved a number of your themes, however I do suggest that you either tone down the piano or remove it completely. At times I found that it took away from the piece. This is a very small comment however, as I loved the music... you are a very talented composer. The mp3 is extremely realistic: what did you use? GPO?
February 4, 200620 yr Author Very good stuff. I loved a number of your themes, however I do suggest that you either tone down the piano or remove it completely. At times I found that it took away from the piece. This is a very small comment however, as I loved the music... you are a very talented composer. The mp3 is extremely realistic: what did you use? GPO? Samples I used... if I can remember correctly... Sonic Implants Con Sordino(Demo) Sonic Implants Spiccato(Demo) VSL Orchestral Percussion(Demo...) True Strike 24-Bit ...Demo VSL Horn Ensemble(Demo) VSL Trombone Ensemble(Demo) VSL Tuba(Demo) Westgate Studios Percussion(Free download from their site) WestGate Studios Flute WestGate Studios Oboe WestGate Studios Clarinet PMI Bosendorfer 290(Demo) I think that's all of them but I could be wrong. Anyway, as you can see... everything but the Westgate studios samples are Demo patches that came in a 17gb set when I bought GS3. Personally, I think a lot of the samples suck as far as VSL's go, but I love the con sordino and spiccato patches, and the PMI 290. :P Thanks for the feedback.
February 5, 200620 yr this piece is awesome. i like how you keep switching instruments for the melody lines. which makes it not so boring. good job.
February 8, 200620 yr Very nice work. Samplings are great, aren't they? :P This is nicely composed. You been through any education or are you self-taught? Im saving your tune on my playlist :ninja: Cheers!
February 13, 200620 yr Author As far as music composition, sampling, and sequencing go, I'm self taught. But as far as basic theory goes I played Alto Sax in school for abouit...8 years with about 4 personal lessons(hated them so I dropped the lessons). Took guitar lessons for about... 7 sessions or so and dropped those(been playing guitar for 11 years). And... had piano lessons for about 3 years to top it all off, but been playing piano since I could move my fingers. :D It's been about 15-18 years I've been playing piano. My only sin on piano was the fact I never wanted to learn other people's stuff, and instead of practicing my assigned pieces I'd spend hours making up my own little creations. :D
