Long Road Home

This is the longest song I've written, and the best one in this genre.

While some of the parts are simple, a good deal were challenging to write.

Hey, Not bad. The MIDI doesn't do it justice. Seems minimalist and the main theme works well.. a little haunting. Nice work with the percussion on the transitions. Keep it up.

The Piano part is beautiful. Put some more of that in there. Or just delete the whole song and make it all based about the great piano line that you have. Other than the amazing piano and some good note choices, its a bit average, but I can see that you have a vision. This piece gets a 3 out of 5 in my books. Keep working and I can see it being totally amazing. I really enjoyed listening to it.

Probably the reason that the piano is so much better than the rest of the song, is because I play it.

Although i also play trumpet, the piano part was a lot easier to write for.

I don't think it's possible to play with just one person. So I'm going to have to split it up into two parts.

Also, I have trouble writing solo piano pieces, or duets. Basically, I just used the song to experiment with different themes:

Find a good piano player and see if he or she can play it. If you can write it, someone can play. Unless there are like fifteen notes at one time, and I don't see fifteen notes at once.

Secondly, when you put up the post about the journey and where you are at different times during the music, I listened to the piece differently. The beginning, which I did not really like that much at first, seemed to take on a different meaning. It's like your happy at the very beginning because your going somewhere new, then you hear the vibes and harp playing the quarter note triplets and its like saying goodbye. Then it is like you miss your home while you are in the valleys. Then during the mountains something happens to raise your mood and make you miss your family and home a little less. Then it tells about your journey. All the good times and the bad times. All of the troubles and all the triumphs. Then finally your home. And excitement is everywhere. Then the final piano line, is when your old and can't ever go on a journey again you remember your journey.

Just keep trying to convey the feeling that you want. And very good job with keeping the theme present throughout all of the journey. I really enjoyed listening to the piece this time around.

well, for the band arrangement, I split it up into two different parts. I thought about the possibility to play it, and it just wasn't very likely. While the main two parts are going on at the right half of the piano, there are arpeggios going on on the left half. I suppose if I left the lowest notes out, it might work, but those are important.

Besides, it's a high school band that I wrote this for. I'm only 15, and I'm not that talented of a player.

I know what your talking about. I'm only 15 too, and I just started playing the piano last year, so I'm not that talented either.
