Rondo for Flute Trio

This is a short piece I composed. It is part of a suite of six songs for flute trio, and it is the second. I have yet to finish the others. This is my first stab at serious composing, so all feedback is greatly welcomed. Here is the Midi:

This sounds very nice. You have done a good job at learning the rules of counterpoint (or if you didn't it sounded like it!). I thought that the very interesting points of this song came when the 1st flute did NOT have the melody. They kept my interest because it was different. Most of the time, more beginner composers have the misconception that the highest voice must have the melody, this is not always the case.

Sometimes, the composer must elaborate on their designs and currently establish a melody line, usually they believe this is the highest voice on the staff. They are right, the top voice and the highest will ALWAYS be heard. Now, once establishing the melody is done, it can be put into variations, which it seems you have done here, at least that's what it sounds like on first listen. You have also given the hardest part to the 1st flute which is fine, but let him have a break once and a while. I know this is a short piece but people like contrast!

I liked it! I agree with Morivou about that the 1st flute doesn't have to have the melody all the time. It gets more interesting when the 1st flute doesn't have the melody all the time, or when the 2nd and the 3rd flute have the melody. You can't hear a difference on the computer, but in live, it will be much fresher, I think.

The harmonies sounds fine, and it's all well-written. I look forward to the next 5 ;)
