Career as a pianist?

You are in Canada you say: I'm going to presume either Montreal or Toronto or Vancouver?

All three have very fine universities, with good music departments, some have more than one (Montreal).

Thank you!! After reading all some "americano-centric rantings", this makes me feel like I've suddenly met a long-lost relative or something.. haha :D a bit exaggerated, but you get my point.

Actually,, I dont live in those three cities, but I live really close to one of them, and those were the universities I was thinking of..

Have you done any competitions? That is the first place you start to know whether you will become a concert pianist or not. If you can get to the national level before age 18, then you have a good chance.

Right,, that leaves me with 3 yrs to reach my next goal.. :w00t:

Almost all of the pianists I know who did both music and a science at the same time, ended up going into science and leaving music behind. Science is a full-time job. And science is just as competitive as the arts, if not more-so.

That's a really good point.. again- :w00t:

Thanks again for ur advice. It was very helpful,, and factual!

"And? They are all famous" Are they famous because they are Americans as you said? Cause they are not Americans, not the names that I mentioned, nor the names that you did. And if they hadn't been in the States, do you think that they woudln't be famous? Stravinsky went to Paris and became famous, not the States.
They wouldn't have been as famous, America has the control over the world to promote. And they were American. If someone from Iran, aplied for American citzenship, got it, and went to America... he is not American????
And either way are you trying to defend that the only place to do something in life and career are the States? Cause this is what you're saying.
..........No I am not. Why do people egsadurate (HTF to you spell that....) everything I say....
On practice: Why exactly? If you take regular breaks (I would study 50 minutes and rest ten, by bullshiting mainly, for a few hours straight), then there doesn't seem any harm. Can you really explain why it is counterproductive, instead of repeating yourself continuously and contradicting yourself (cause you denied saying that and then you tried to justify it by not doing so.
I never denied saying it. I was assuming (as the later posts back up) that it was continuously 6 hours. 6 hours over the course of a day is fine.
You are contradicting yourself continously.
Where? Please show me.
This is what I mean. Take down the SO amazingly absolute tone about practicing and the States and we are totally fine.
It's an argument........ I've been doing this for about 5 years at another forum.
Omg, I should never have wrote it! DONT make such a big deal out of this, ppls! THat was only for less than 2 weeks right before my exam!
Don't worry, I like arguing.

And again on the States. The US ecomony is going from bad to worst. Even with money, unless you want to do movies, and only movies (not even games), there doesn't seem much reason to move in the States. Not that it's bad, on the contrary, but it's not the only place, as you imply.

Waitaminute!slowdown!don'tgotoofartoofast! :w00t:

What do you mean the US "ecomony" (had to do that :D ) is going from bad to worst? Wasn't it just under a year ago when the stock market was at a record high? And also, minus Canada, the US has the highest economy in the world... maybe minus China too. ;) The point is, you saying the economy is going from bad to worst is not true.

And, I won't even go into the freedoms that America has over many other countries.

Anyway, off-topic. I posted something very similar to that in the "A Female President?" thread, so you can find it there if you want to know more.

If you read more than US media outlets, you will find, that EVERYONE is predicting China, India, Russia, Possibly Brazil to take over. It is the fall of the US, get used to it.

The only reason you have more "freedoms" than other countries is because America makes sure these other countries have less. You are not free... at all. It's quite hilarious.

I'm sorry, you have just lost all of my affinity for you.

For one, the US does not limit the power of other nations!!! It seems to me that you have never heard of the document better known as the US Con-sti-tu-tion. I suggest that you look it up.

Either way, if you want to comment on this more, put it in the off-topic section. I'm perfectly willing to debate it there.
