Invention in c minor (hard baroque)

Featured Replies

Hello again. Here is my first invention, and I'm looking for some feedback. I made two recordings, one is for organ Invention in c minor no.1 (organ).mp3 and one for cello and violin (this one needs some improvement I think) Invention in c minor no.1 (cello + violin).mp3

If you don't like baroque, you'll hate it :) It's a little bit stressful experience and not my style at all :). I was wondering is it better on organ or strings? Organ version has some extra pedal tones, but I think that cello and violin are really nice combination.

Nice piece, good baroque music ! liked the cello violin best, check out my baroque music at chamber music, preludes & fuges ect :)

very nice!

I liked the organ one the best, myself!

One thing that I was EXTREMELY happy with...

A lot of the famous Baroque composers (ex. Bach, Buxtehude, etc.) when writing in minor tonalities, could write a beautiful work, and then end on some frilly major chord that didn't even sound right.

THANK YOU for ending on the minor... that made my night!:toothygrin::toothygrin:

Uhhh... yeah! I really like baroque, and I hope you can make more of these. Only problem, I somtimes found the theme sort of... disappearing into the music. I think the theme could have been a bit more distincitve. That's my only criticism.

To me both sound good. They might be fit for different occasions.

The only problem I found was that sometimes in the cello/violin version the cello repeatedly ends up on the same tone without apparent direction. This happens in the first part after the violin comes in. Hitting the same note (that is highest or lowest pitch of the melody at the time) can give a feeling of being trapped or not going anywhere. It can be used effectively, f.ex.

G-H-G-C-G-D

and then used as a base, but if no structure is visible and the melody (in this case the cello's melody) does not get a new base note for some time this can lead to boredom or insecurity of the melody.

But otherwise I thought it was good, not too cluttered and straight to the point. :)
