January 26, 200818 yr Ricci Adams' Musictheory.net Is this site good for a beginning composer? what grade would you give it?
January 26, 200818 yr I would grade it 9.9/10 (I didn't see the whole site). I have run onto it earlier on and it made a very good impression to me. Do note that it is music theory and does not deal with composition though. Not that what it mentions is useless, on the contrary. :)
January 26, 200818 yr As a "new composer" I have mixed feelings about this site. There is a lot of experience and knowledge available, and that can be really useful. And it's great to see and hear the music others are writing. BUT music has it's own language, and if you're just learning it, this can be a really alienating place to visit. Especially if you're like me and don't have much formal music education. AND some of the contributers are loving arrogant, and use the discussions to get their rocks off on feeling superior to everyone else. AND the tone of most of the discussions reflects the age of most of the participants - under 20. I give it 2 stars
January 26, 200818 yr heh... Joe. I do think you should reread the original post ;) He is not talking about YC, but about the site he linked. Unless I'm going crazy that is... ;)
January 26, 200818 yr *chuckles at Joe's comment* It's an excellent site, got a lot of extremely useful information for people who know little theory. I also think the format is good, very easy to follow. Recommendable - For theory it's brilliant, but remember you won't learn composition from theory alone ;) I second Nik's grade :)
January 26, 200818 yr Author Thanks I wanted to know if it has what I need to use to verify or apply in my future compositions. Guess I'll get on my studying. As for Joe: Please read the whole post before saying something from now on. :P
