February 13, 200818 yr This is a recon piece I made for a first person shooter. It is not for an actual game I just felt like making a piece like this in my free time. SoundClick artist: Bob Taylon - page with MP3 music downloads Any questions or comments are welcomed. Thanks for listening.
February 16, 200818 yr Overall I really like that piece, it suited the genre well and could imagine it in a game. there are a few suggestions I would make to improve it. A score would be useful aswell. There are some places where the melody line could be 'tightened' as it is let to wonder a bit too much. 24 secs - 27secs the melody line runs up and resolves itself but finishes on the 3rd beat this sounds a bit strange and I would peronally draw out the notes to finish on the first beat of the next bar. More to come, had to leave....
February 17, 200818 yr Bob I must be going blind!! I swear I check out this area once a day and I never saw this one sitting here. What software/sequencer/notation do you use and what libraries? I like this one a lot. It has some great forward motion in it with a great beat and a raw undertone. Well Done! Ron
February 17, 200818 yr Author 24 secs - 27secs the melody line runs up and resolves itself but finishes on the 3rd beat this sounds a bit strange and I would peronally draw out the notes to finish on the first beat of the next bar. I didn't notice that. In the actual score it plays a half note, but in the recording it sounds like a eigth note. Looks like a rendering error. If your using to much RAM and you render the software sometimes cuts the notes short or cuts them off. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm glad you liked it otherwise and thanks for posting.
February 17, 200818 yr Author What software/sequencer/notation do you use and what libraries? I use FL Studio 4 (which is really old, but works for me.) The library for this piece is EWQL for instruments, NS Kit (Natural Studio) for percussion, and some default synths. I have to say the mastering is what took the longest on this piece. Mainly because of the drums and synths.
February 20, 200818 yr Damn it, sorry. While Ron must be suffering from sight loss, I appear to be suffering from memory loss. I've come across this thread about five times and everytime I mean to comment but end up getting distracted. So I'm forcing myself now. Anyway, this is great piece. I can easily imagine this in a first person shooter. You mix orchestral sounds with electronic ambience very well and the entire piece has a great sense of drive and forward motion (even after it loops). To be honest, I think your style better fits this sort of music and I'd love to hear more First-Person Shooter intended pieces.
