Songs for a New World (and other works... by Jason Robert Brown)

Featured Replies

So, I stumbled upon some of Jason Robert Brown's recordings. And, I have to say that his music is the future of Broadway.

If you don't believe me, check out this video:

On the Deck of a Spanish Sailing Ship, 1492 (Best Amateur recording I have EVER heard of this song)

His style is just so original. It's Broadway, Pop, Gospel, a Little Rock, Classical, and Virtuoso Piano all in the same song. I love his music, and you should search his other works on Youtube... they are around. :whistling:

Thanks for listening,

Morivou

Jason Robert Brown has been around for a while. I mean Songs for a New World opened in the like the late 80's or the early 90's or something. Its like saying Stephen Sondheim is the future of Broadway.

Anyway yes, Jason Robert Brown is great.

Stephen Sondheim is about 77, Jason Robert Brown is about 38... BIIIIGGG difference. Just so you know, not trying to be a know it all, just stating the truth.

And, if Brown writes as much music as Sondheim did, then yes, he would be the future of Broadway... unless he starts writing crap (which is something Sondheim did, IMO, when he wrote Bounce)

ALSSSSOOOO, I looked it up (for the record), and Songs for a New World came out in 1995. So he has aLONG road ahead of him to match the other timeless Broadway composers.

Ok, didnt mean to get you like this, I was just saying hes been for a while and i love his, work i just woulndt say hes the future of broadway I would say he was a big influence on broadway music of today, and back in '95 you could've called him the future, but now he just known as an amazing theatre composer, like Stephen Schwartz.

:)

OH, sorry... I misinterpreted your remark. I agree, if he was the future of Broadway, his stuff wouldn't already be there. haha. :whistling:

I love this song....i think this recording is better than the original broadway cast...its super

It is really good. What is different is that you can sense the energy that the OBC reocrding doesn't have.
