March 26, 200817 yr I will likely learn a piano concerto next year and I can't decide which one to do. Here are the three that I am deciding between... Rachmaninov-Piano Concerto #1 in F# minor Grieg- Piano Concerto in A minor Ravel- Piano Concerto in G Major Which of those would YOU pick? Thanks. :D
March 26, 200817 yr I've played the latter two already, so I know how "hard" they are. The Grieg is a TINY bit more difficult technically (particularly for the left hand), and requires a great deal of stamina. The Ravel is a bit easier technically, but has its own interpretational difficulties. Isn't this something you should be discussing with your teacher, anyway? I don't EVER remember needing to ask strangers for input on my repertoire when I was still studying with my teacher. Everything needed to be passed through her.
March 28, 200817 yr I haven't heard the Grieg piano concerto but I have heard the other two. Personally, I would go with Ravel's but I'm a bit biased since it's one of my favorite piano concertos of all time.
April 19, 200817 yr Rachmaninoff's (so I've heard) is wickedly difficult, the intervals and such being often larger than most concerti (as Rachmaninoff had quite large hands, he could get away with it). Probably the Ravel would be the easiest one to do.
