One, an opera in one scene

Featured Replies

Great piece.

The score (notation) has some errors in it, mostly related to text syllabification.

I enjoyed it, it reminded me a lot of John Adams' work... which I can also see as being a problem with it. It sounds a tiny bit too MUCH like John Adams at times. That was a bit distracting to me. I almost felt I was hearing a chamber version of Nixon in China.

That said, I found your choice of piano and vibe for the accompaniment quite felicitous, and well executed.

an excellent performance to boot, so congratulations.

First off, I'd like to thank drumultima for uploading the recording! My internet situation is flaky at best right now.

And of course, thanks to everybody for listening, and your comments.

Qc, the effect Adam's had on this piece is definitely more noticeable than my other music, as it was semi-intentional. I drew upon a bunch of various sources to help this scene get written. The most obvious was song lyrics used fairly liberally throughout the libretto. There are some Oingo Boingo song lyrics in there, including the whole 'soak up so much pain' thing and the 'empty water' part. A Phish song is basically paraphrased to make the ending text, when they're dying. Frida Kahlo inspired the vines of my heart text with her very conflicted paintings. And John Adam's, mainly with Nixon in China, inspired the focus on pulse, and the parallel, triadic harmony.

Thanks for all the comments, I much appreciate them. I'm just glad the recording came out so well! Keep a look out for the recording to my orchestra piece, Sometimes I Dream!
