Solo Work for Oboe and Orchestra help!

Featured Replies

Hi. I need to turn in a music theory composition that is 36 bars long, and I only started with a few bars and I'm stuck! Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Just for some background info-

I'm a junior in high school.

I've been an oboist for 8 years

and percussionist for 4 years

and now I've started bassoon.

Can you post a PDF of your score? I don't have sibelius on this pc (I'm at school)

If I get home/you post a score I'll look at it right away. :)

EDIT: I'm home now..... :D

It's good so far. There were a couple things I'm concerned about though. First, the introduction is very short, even for a piece that's supposed to be 36 measures. I would extend that a bar or two before the oboe entrance.

You obviously need to finish writing the string parts, so I'm not going to touch on their lack

In the second measure, the As in the bass of the harp might be better as F#.

The third measure where the harp begins entering the lower register is notated weirdly. I put that into the bass clef.

In general, harp octaves are difficult to manage.

After the oboe scale in the 3rd measure, I think the landing note would be more graceful as a 16th.
