piano/cello/flute trio

tell me what you think. this is an unfinished work

TRIO.MID

It's a pretty good start. You need to look at the measures where you gave the right hand B#s, because it makes a conflict with the left hand's Bnaturals. The B# makes the chord there major while the Bnatural is out of place.

I like the sound, but what instrument will play the string line? Cello or bass? You have it set on string ensemble now, and that wouldn't exactly be a trio...

And, since you're new, I'll just tell you that we're trying to keep the 'Get Your Compositions Critiqued' sub-forum uncluttered, so please try to keep all your compositions in one thread.

thanks i changed that b sharp...

the bass part is being played by cello, i'm using finale printmusic, i think it might have gotten changed when i saved it as a midi file

is there any way to change the name of a thread once it has been posted, or do i need to start a new one?

I loved this piece. It was pretty nice. I think you're on the right track!

Very well done... I detect a sort of movie-music feel to this, but I do like it. It seems that much of the music on this board has either a movie or video game feel to it. Indicative or our times perhaps? I know that my music has been tagged as sounding like video game music by some of my friends, so I guess we're all influenced by it. Either way, very nice start and I look forward to hearing the development!

yeah... it does sound a little movie-ish, but that can't be a bad thing. it would go perfectly with a first person view of skimming over water, or flying... might call it "flight"... hmm... i'm working on the second section right now, so expect an update maybe later today

here's an updated version... still not done, though it should give you a taste of the b section.

TRIO.MID

Haha ms 16 still has that b natural in the left hand!! :D

I still like it! Although the chord progression is rather simple, the instruments work together very nicely. I'm wondering, are you planning on having this performed? It would probably be very easy for even friends to learn it or something.

I know that the Cello patch doesn't sound all that great, but using strings instead gives it a much more broader feel - and what's up with the cymbal hits? Isn't this for Piano, Cello, and Flute only?

I agree with Nickthoven about how everything blends in nicely - still, I wouldn't mind a little bit more variety in some of the parts, especially the cello part (which sounds more like it's written for string accompaniment than a solo part). But nice touches with making the flute more expressive (do the same with the piano too! more note velocity variation please).

Nichthoven, how in the world do you know there were b#'s and naturals there...does the sccore come up when you click on the file or something? It doesn't for me. i'm just confused! lol

Ok...about the song. I loved it! It was very pretty. GREAT WORK. i have nothing to critique about it. I've always liked songs with a minor feel to them! great job.

Either...

1. He has perfect pitch

or more likely,

2. He imported the MIDI into his notation software :P

lols

hey thanks for the input about the cello part i'm going to develop it further to make it more interesting to play... maybe something that will enhance the forward motion of the piece to make up for the simple chord progression.

ohhh... i didn't know you could do that (the second one). I only have Finale Notepad (free, dinky version of the real one) and i just d-loaded it the other day...so i don't know much about it.
