String Serenade No. 3 in G major

Featured Replies

Salut!

This is another Serenade for String Orchestra. It is in the key of G major (my third or fourth favorite key). I'm not sure if it's better than No. 2, and I've had mixed opinions regarding the fact from different people. I'd love to know how to make it better.

I always seem to give the Violas a good part. I'm sure THEY don't mind. I try to focus more on the lower strings to sort of spread the melodies across the orchestra. I think I did okay. First violins start it off as soli. The melody then gets passed back and forth between upper and lower strings. My favorite part is the transition to C major at 1:44. Anyways, here are the files...

HERE's the mp3! PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO DOWNLOAD! It makes a world of difference.

I'd like info on the melodies, harmonies, key changes, everything! Thanks for your time.

Nice piece Evan, very good harmony! The key changes blended nicely, in my opinion. I think you did well with giving the low strings focus. However, there was one part, where the viola had the melody, the accompaniment was over powering, I could barely hear the viola. You may want to put the accompaniment at a softer level, just tone that down a bit (unless that is how you want it, in which case, leave it that way :D ). I like how you gave each instrument the melody (alternating), I try to do that a lot also because it makes it more interesting to listen to. Very nice work :D

You are on your way to becoming a good arranger. I hated being a second violinist, and only playing whole notes and open string fifths. One thing that kind of bugged me is that some of the lower instruments were playing whole notes through 80% of the piece. Whole notes aren't a bad thing, but it's nice to have some variety.

I'm going to check out some of our other works. :D

Could someone review my string orchestra piece please?

Thanks for your responses! I do hope others will comment...

Darn it. :) Anyone, anyone...?

It's nicely done. Though I can't give a constructive comment since I'm not a fan of this type of music.

Just out of curiosity... are you a Javascript programmer?
