I have some additional information about this piece on the Sibelius website. The story is similar to that of the Prodigal Son in the New Testament, but set in modern day Vienna, from the brothels of Praterstrasse to the climactic ceremony at the Ernst-Happel Stadion. Here the road for forgiveness end, and the main character is united with his long lost mother, as they walk together toward the gates of heaven.
