Stryofoam Revamped for String Orchestra

Featured Replies

Now, before you all start thinking that this is a ridiculous song because of the name, I want to tell you that my heart and soul went into this. I am humbling myself before you all in hopes of catching some pointers from you all about this piece.

Let me just introduce the piece. This is, or will be, a multi-movement piece in which different themes are introduced and variated upon. Most of the themes have been introduced in this piece, already, but they may still seem a little...primitive and immature, for lack of better wording.

Attached is an .mp3 file that you will hear. Please tell me what you think of it, and I will take nothing as offensive, just as long as you keep your mind open and comment book ready.

Thanks for listening!! :-D

i don't see an mp3.... or a midi..... or a score.

Please always upload a score with an audio file (mp3 or midi or something similar)

I really want to hear this, so it would be wonderful if you could do the previously mentioned things. Thanks! :)

Hmm...strange, I thought I did! Sorry about that... I don't really know how to save a score on here for others to view. I previously attached the Finale file that I used... I'll attach an .mp3 now.

hey chancellor, this looks interesting, Ill be waiting for your score and mp3! ;)

You know, without sounding like a noob (which I am...) I can't seem to get an .mp3 on here. The website keeps telling me that it's an invalid file. Any suggestions?

well, to upload mp3's, you have to do it via third-party, such as esnips.com or box.net

this site only allows midis for now. Those two sites are free, but as soon as you upload the files, you can post a link in the original post, and then we can access it from there.

Ah, thank you Maelstrom!

Here is the link! I still don't know how to upload the score...

Thanks again for your help! :-D

very interesting things going on in the music. Very intense but there are a few things that could make it better.

In measure 82 you have the dynamic marking triple f but you have the strings divided into two or three voice per string part. Doing that in real life would actually volume go down. Strings sound louder in unison than divided (especially in the violas in cellos that are divided into three parts).

I would also think about making more unique and exotic chordal changes and cadences. You have very unique rhythmic patterns and adding more exoticism to the music would only do good to keep the listener interested. Think about impressionism or even atonal. Throw in there a chord that not in the same key once in a while.

But these are just my opinions... the piece sound great anyways.

Excellent, I will definitely do something like that... Thanks for taking the time out to listen! :-)

First off, welcome to YC.

I also hoped to find a link to a mp3 and finally found it but I suggest you edit your oringinal post and add the link there as well since many here do not read the latter posts in the thread.

You have some interesting ideas in the piece and some could be expanded on while others need a little ironing out but overall an good listen.

Thanks, definitely! I value your input.

I caught a soaring melody in there at about 1:30 that I liked.

The frantic stuff before that is a bit muddy, there is an obvious upper and lower part but they don't have much to do with each other. They join at the melody, and I really like that thirty-second bit there =]

I agree, with a little ironing out, a fabulous piece you have there.

Good luck on it, I enjoyed it.

Cheers, Brian

Excellent, thanks! Mainly, in the more furioso parts, it is mainly octave or third doubling. But then again, I can see why it sounds a little muddy...working to improve it, I promise! :-D Thanks again
