That quote reflects my personal attitude to longer music (which can tend to drag on) as (like Webern) I appreciate brevity and simple statements.

Up to now I've heard only a single piece that sounded really "atonal" to me and that was Boulez' "Structures". And I still suspect that if I were to listen to it some more, I'd start to hear tonalities in it too. And yes, I listen to a lot of 20th century music, including serialist music (most pieces of Webern, Boulez, Stockhausen, Nono etc. definitely have certain tonalities for me, even if fleeting). Tonality, for me, is something extremely gradual and quite subjective.

yeah, i agree with this. When studying Takemitsu, my first response was "wow this is atonal". However as the music went on and i became more familiar with it, I began to discover a new tonality blossom out of it.
