clarinetcola
i am writing a piece for orchestra in 12/8 time, the woodwinds are playing the melody, and i would like to have a syncopation-sort-of effect on the strings for chords. so i would like to know if i could achieve a syncopation effect on it. CaltechViolist
Not hard. Have the strings stress the second or third 8th note of each beat.
Guest cavatina
Yeah.... just stress the weak beats. The up beats if you will.
Frederik Sj
Hmm.. i am not familiar with that "stress"-term in the context of comopsing. Could someone explain it to me?
Calehay
To emphasize the beat. In the context of this conversation, they are tallking about emphasizing the upbeats in a syncopation figure as opposed to the already emphasized beats (1, 4, 7, and 10)
