Solo Marimba Piece

Featured Replies

This is a piece I composed in a five day workshop I recently attended, I performed it at the workshop concert and I would love to know what you all think of it! (Ignore the fact that this is a terrible midi recording.)

Daisies.MID

A score would provide you with much more and better feedback...that aside, I found many parts very enjoyable and rhythmically interesting, the structure and form of the piece could use some work, but without a score I can't get much more detailed. In the first thirty seconds I found myself wanting to stop the recording and leave, it didn't pique my curiosity, despite the minor development of the idea. the later portion of the piece where this theme returns gives me the same feeling.

Overall, an entertaining piece, and with some work, I believe it can become a much stronger piece.

Good job developing your motives, meter switches worked well. It seems like the heart of it is in folk tradition, but your rhythmic ideas, syncopations, and choice of harmonies brought it more towards a latin jazz style, I liked it.

Yo Ross.

Still don't know the story behind this piece, but you made it sound intense. You should fill me in.

edit: i'm dumb. But can you post a pdf of the score? Also, there are parts where i hear 4 note block chords going very fast--is that supposed to be a roll?

All in all it sounds pretty nice, I like the motif. Nice and groovy :) I think you could've developed this further personally, but for what it is i like it!

Yes the four note chords are supposed to be rolls and much more musical then this terrible MIDI can manage. I can try to post a .pdf I'm not sure if I have a way to do that though. Thanks for your comment!

And thanks everyone else for your input too, I will take it all into consideration and make appropriate changes.
