Invention in d minor

Hi, this is my new piano composition, I would like very much to hear your opinion. Here is mp3: Invention in d n.2.mp3. Unfortunatelly, I don't have the scores right now, but I'm working on it :)

I may be wrong, but each exposition of the theme is in the same key (d minor). An exposition in the dominant, subdominant or relative major is expected.

I like the piece anyway!

Thanx for the comments. :) Yes, each exposition of the theme is in the same key - because I thought that transposition to relative major sounds boring and eventually I decided not to use it. Maybe it was a mistake. Any other suggestions are welcome too, the piece is not in it's final form.

Thanks for posting the score! The piece is not boring, I think you've managed to create enough contrast with the dynamics; jut sounded unusual for me at first. But I like it very much!

This piece is rather pleasant, but I feel your decision to cycle around the circle of fifths over and over makes this piece sound rather like a pop song. If your model is Bach (which judging by the form of the piece, and scrolling baroque-style font on the pdf. file, it probably is), then it's worth noting that Bach rarely uses more than a few rotations of the circle of fifths before escaping into something more harmonically interesting.

If however you aimed to combine modern influences with those of the baroque period then you've done rather well. This piece is hugely accessible, and I can imagine someone singing some plaintive melody over the top.

Thank you, Zetetic, for your comment, I appreciate it. :) I don't know very much about music, but I thought that this chord progression is commonly used progression, since 17th century (it was used by Telemann, Bach and Vivaldi) - Handel wrote an entire Passacaglia (from Suite No. 7 in G minor) using these chords. It is also quite frequent in classical and romantic music (Mozart’s Sonata in F major K 332, my favorite :wub:).

Yes, I suppose it is often found in pop songs as well, but I don't think it makes a big difference between the “old music” and pop songs. Thanx again for your interest,
