Saving the Bach Manuscripts...

Came across this very interesting documentary on youtube.

Interesting. It would have been more so if the expert commentary in German had been provided with subtitles.

Bachdigital.org doesn't exist anymore, it seems.

yeah i was looking for the site too, maybe it's belongs to another organization now?

Yes, subtitles would have been nice. I didn't check the Bachdigital.org but if I remember correctly I think they listed a couple other sites that house the scores. I'll watch again to make sure.

When I was watching the documentary I was astounded at the fact that Bach in all his genius and temper had no idea that he and his music would eventually hold such a valuable place in classical music...very touching if u ask me.

I can translate a little of the overall ideas the german dudes talk about, but first I probably need to finish watching it, lol.

How would he have possibly known that?

Well, he was pretty lost for a while...

Y'all should try bachdigital.de, instead of .org. I got there, but there are only a few samples and such.

EDIT: My German is slacking. I couldn't follow the German speech very well. I got the gist, but not much more than that.

*bump*

Because Bach rocks.

My point was that throughout history there were composers who knew that their works would make an impact even in death. CPE Bach once wrote about a sacred piece of his that "it would secure his name". You don't ever read things like about Bach but you do about other composers. That was the point I was making.
