Aragorn (lyrics by J. R. R. Tolkien)

Featured Replies

The lyrics are by Tolkien. He wrote them for the "The lord of the Rings" Trilogy. It's the poem which describes Aragorn.

The piano part is very simple, but I like it anythough.

Has anyone some suggestions for advancementes?

I would be thankful!!!

two little details:

1. the vocal line goes above the piano part.

2. do be careful when selecting text - the words of Tolkien are still under copyright, and as such require a written permission if you wish to set them to music.

Was it illegal to set the poem into music, and put them here?

I'm such a "Lord of the Rings"-freak...

Technically, you could write the music, but the words are under copyright and you must get permission to use them.

Are Tolkeins languages under copyright also? Since someone posted a thread about dark languages and the languages were mentioned i've been looking at possibly learning the basics of one to try some choral stuff with, but it would be difficult if they are copyrighted :(

The piece is quite good btw  only problem (aside from legal issues) is with the score; the vocalist should be above the piano as QcC has already mentioned.

The Tolkien languages are not per se under copyright.. meaning, you could write a text yourself using any of the languages without infringing on Tolkien's estate.

I gotta tell you, having tried myself, they are NOT easy to learn.

Lol thanks will bare that in mind - I'm hopeless at German and French so I will probably struggle since I find languages hard :P Will stick to English I think for my first choral stuff...

I don't understand why it should be a rule to write the piano under the vocal line...

I did it on purpose! I wanted to show the difference between "the ashes" and "the light"... A cis is very deep for a soprano, and if the piano plays above the voice, the voice seems to be still deeper than it is anyway...

no, no, I think you misunderstood me: I mean in your score, the staff with the vocal part should be ABOVE the staff with the piano part. It has nothing to do with the notes being played.

Oh, yes, I miss missunderstood you (that's the trouble with the foreign language:blush:)...

Yes, your right of course!!! I tried to change it, but I didn't find out how it works...

I get the programm only a few weeks ago, and so I'm still experimenting...

Sorry...
