Virtual World (For Choir and Electronic Instrument) somewhat live recording

Featured Replies

Virtual is one of the peices I have written earlier this year. This piece is in three movements, the sencond movement was recorded by me and a friend and can be found on the following page: MySpace.com - Tyler Hughes - KILLEEN, Texas - Classical / Minimalist / Experimental - www.myspace.com/plutokatmusic

The peices is breifly decribes a world growing further and further from its natrual roots through its slightly abstract lyrics. The point is also illistrated through the use of electronic instrement such as the theremin and the ondes martenot

wow the choral/vocal form is quiet dead

Well, this is a forum. Not an instant messenger. But I can understand you being anxious for feedback. Just give them a little time. No piece is ignored on this site as far as I have seen. I will listen to your piece a little later when I have some time.

Okay, all I really have to say about these three movements is that they are absolutely phenomenal! There is nothing I heard that I thought really needed to be changed. You are writing contemporary music, therefore, you are not as tied down by all the rules that other composers of other styles are. I especially loved your second movement. Every chord that the ensemble sang was very warm and rich. I especially loved it when the choir sang "and love" in the beginning of the second movement; and the last page was gorgeous (much like everything else). You used the synthesizers well, too. Each piece really got it's message out and the lyrics were beautifully emphasized by your use of harmonies and counterpoint. One of my favorite lines was the, "zero(x4), one." It was all very creepy, which makes me enjoy it that much more. Other composers on this site should be strongly urged to check out this work of art! It is truly worth listening to! I thought it was quite a shame you didn't have the files for download on your myspace music page. I would have loved to of had that in my itunes! Fantastic job! Like a mentioned before, I don't think anything needs to be done! I believe you know what you're doing. I do think you should get them performed as soon as possible though! Great job and keep up the great work!

BTW, what does 00001 mean in Binary code?

wow glad you really liked it. This is one of my favorite pieces I have written and I do hope to have the other movements recorded sometime this year.

BTW I dont think 00001 means anything in binary... it is most likely not even a full letter. I placed it in there because originally I had plans of doing large portions of the song in binary but it would have extended the piece a good extra 3 to 5 mins, something I didnt plan on doing.

The ideas of the songs are beautiful. But I don't really get all of it. The lyrics and the chords. There was one voicing thing in one of the movements. The high ''D'''for the sopranos. Such high notes aren't so common in choral music. I know you probably know all of that but... It just makes me nervous when I see all those ledger lines.

Overall everything was really creative. The synthesizers and everything. Good Job!!

Woah, yeah, anything higher than like an A should be solo work, if written at all. I mean I'm sure there are sopranos capable of that note but it's really, really uncommon and shouldn't be written in the piece unless you know the choir performing it is capable of singing that high.
