February 21, 200620 yr Title Finished.MIDI wrote this a long time ago as a challenge for a friend and I was wondering if the new crowd here could give me some pointers. And please ignore the left hand simplicity. It's in progress :)Challenge.mid challenge.sib Challenge_for_Candy.pdf
February 25, 200620 yr 2 things... that don't have to do too much with constructive criticism but still.. One, you used a midi that I could listen to, Awesome. Secondly, I can get the music to print, Awesome for that too. The piece definitally has great potentially. It is a very creative piece, especially for the treble. I bet that once you get the bass better, it'll be one amazing piece. I like how it starts out with that slow and rather simple "sounding" intro, then suddenly gets into something much bigger and better. keep it up and going.
February 25, 200620 yr yeah me too. I think to better your left hand, try enhancing the quarter notes to eighth notes and in some special places octave it down an octave so you will have a strong beat in each measure. That's what I would do. You don't have to. I also think that when you get to the solo right hand line in the second half of the song.... I like it with out the left hand (personally) but it seems to be too long before you hear it again. So, why don't you kick it up a notch and maybe add one bass note (the dominant or the tonis of the chord ocataved) at the beginning of each measure or every two measures. That would sound cool. KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!! It sounds good so far. Let us see the finished product.
February 25, 200620 yr I hate to break it to you, but the intro isn't yours originally :( The intro (before the sixteenth notes) is "Clubbed to Death," a piece that appeared on The Matrix soundtrack. Actually, now that I think of it, that's based on the beginning of the "Enigma Variations" by Elgar. You can find midis of either online easily. I don't know which piece you heard, but it's a pretty good transcription! :P No embarrassment involved, I once wrote a piece and later realized that I'd just copied it from my memory of the LOTR soundtrack by Howard Shore! :D
February 25, 200620 yr Author I am still working on this, don't worry :( As far as the intro: I'm well aware it's practically stolen... So what? IT sets up a nice contrast for the beginning. :P
February 25, 200620 yr Good stuff - I like what you've got here. I really really love the harmonies you use when the first arpeggios hit. They are extremely inviting and made me want to keep listening. That's generally a good thing in music. Is this done? I present two options: 1. It serves as a very effective and brief opening to a larger set of works. 2. It should be expanded and the ideas that you've presented thus far should be developed.
February 26, 200620 yr I like this piece. I really do. The whole thing just works. Some parts are a little bit funny, though. Especially the end. Try not to put those rolls on those chords, it is very difficult technically to go up and down two octaves whilst rolling wide chords on the piano. Also, at bar 35, I suggest that you split those chords between the two hands. I think that this could easily be part of a larger suite of music. I suggest that if you decide to make it such, you make other pieces that sound close to this, rather than some suites which have many pieces that sound nothing like each other. Overall nice. By the way, the very beginning is almost an exact copy off of the song "Clubbed to Death" by Rob Dougan.
February 26, 200620 yr Author This feedback is awesome. Don't worry, I'm playing with it right now :P. And to everyone so far, yes I stole teh beginning for Rob D. Because I love it ^_^. And heh, who cares: He stole it from Elgar :-p So maybe someone will steal it from me again. haha
February 26, 200620 yr Author Sorry I didn't see any edit buttons for the original post or I would have put this there too, but I have updated a bit. Please post some critiques or opinions. Also note that the new "fast sounding" section is meant to be done in tasteful rubato lol. challenge.sib challenge2.mid
