Is this a worthy piano composition?

Away from the perfection and strings part, what do you think about my composition? I don't know anything about music theory, btw.

:blush: I don't have a score, as my piano doesn't support direct midi-out and I don't know -by myself- how to score it (no knowledge of music theory)

The best thing about it is actually not the melody, although that is very nice, but the delicate timing. Did you construct this in the computer or did it start as something you played? It sounds like the latter.

I am happy that you liked my composition (my second composition). I never composed directly at my computer since this requires some knowledge of music theory, instead, I imagine how the music should go with some help of my brain, then I try to play that in my piano (and sometimes draw it ;) ). Most of the time, I could not play exactly what I want, but it works ;)

You have to pay attention to your structural flow, sometimes it sounds like you jump from one section to another section without any notice. It helps to repeat your melody twice before going into another section, or just use the 4 measure rule: play the melody 4 measures or 8 measures before going into another section.

The rhythm has to be consistent too, always make 4/4 measures and don't add anything more in one measure.

If you make a bass line in eight notes, then don't jump suddenly to triplets. Only do this when you go into another section or another melody.

My advice for future compositions would be to take everything katchum just said not to do, and do it. If you can throw in a measure of 5/4 or 7/8 then more power to ya'.

Now, structural flow is important, but the point isn't that everything has to be in 2's, 4's, and 8's, it just has to flow. If you can learn to make smooth, easy transitions, then why not make a song that repeats every 3, 5 or even 23 measures.

The thing is, all that matters is how good it sounds in the end. What katchum advised almost always sounds good. It's a very easy way to make proffessional sounding music, and makes it nearly impossible to write bad music if you have any musical creativity at all.

But what's the fun in that.

Don't mind the 4 measure rule, it means that you have to make a melody that consists of 4 measures. Each measure has 4 beats or 3 beats or something else.

Yeah, the 4 measure rule is pretty interesting, but you're right that other rhythms are even more interesting. I'm now listening to Sigma Harmonics of Hamauzu and boy are there rhythm changes there!

But one thing is certain, steadiness of rhythm is a MUST! You can't play out of tempo suddenly. And I heard you doing it a lot.
