Favorite jazz piece/ artist?

my favorite piece right now is wonderland. one of the trumpet players at my high school played it his senior year. it was AMAZING. it's a great piece as long as it is played right. not rickey tick.

my favorite artist has to be lee morgan. great tone. great improviser. can do any kind of jazz. lee morgan.

I'm not familiar with that tune....I'll have to check it out.

Lee Morgan is a great choice...although I wouldn't say he 'can do any kind of jazz' ;)

That said, his solo on Locomotion (from Coltrane's Blue Train) is one of my favorite solos of all time.

i guess my wording was a bit bad with "any kind of jazz"

what i meant was he can do real hard crazy bebop solos (or hard bop if we want to be specific) and he could do great slow melodic improv.
