I don't understand why my quarter notes aren't lining up. An i was wondering if anyone could tell me why it's not working that would be a big help.

You mean visually? It's because of the spacing due to the notes in the other measure. It doesn't really matter, though. The music still plays correctly.

Your notes aren't "lining up" because you have the beaming and beat sub-divisions wrong.
