Cadenza for Mozart Flute Concerto in G major, k 313

Featured Replies

I was looking for a fun project this afternoon and so I decided to write a cadenza for the first movement of the Mozart Flute Concerto no. 1 in G Major (k. 313).

And I thought I'd upload it here. :) Let me know what you think!

Oh yeah, and for some reason, the wav file makes it slower than it should be played. But of course, its a cadenza, so the speed is rather up the performer.

I actually really liked it. That's all I can say, really. It sounded like it fit well. Good job. :)

Thanks!

That was very good, but I think the it could be a little more difficult:~)

Thanks! Yeah, it probably could be more difficult, but the jumps should provide some challenge to the performer, if nothing else. ;)

There you go! The only thing I'd have done differently is develop the thematic material more. But this is quite good.

Do you play the flute, Pianistboy? Just curious. It's a pretty good fit for the instrument idiomatically, too, it seems to me. Kanga has a point if you were writing this for a modern instrument, but the difficulty level seems good for a 1770s wooden flauto traverso (the instrument Mozart had in mind), with its finger holes and few keys.

Hey, thanks J. Lee!

Yes, I do play the flute, and I was trying for a more classical style, so I think that the difficulty is relatively fitting for that "style".
