Ginastera Pampeana No. 2...with live cellist

This piece has it all...well, if rhythmic, ethnic, lyrical, haunting, macho, and hard to play count as all....

Here's a quick recording I made over the weekend with a friend who has some preety decent equipment...the piece is still in progress, so you'll hear some flubby intonation at various spots throughout. I also want to tighten up the rhythm in the end 6/8 section.

I post this piece because--ok, well, if I'm honest, I want to post something of me on the cello.

The primary reason, seriously, is that I want to increase exposure to this very colorful and lesser known work in the solo cello repertoire. Any of you orchestration buffs should DEFINITELY get a recording of the full score (not just piano reduction here). You won't be able to see from the piano part the simplicity that Ginastera maintains along with interesting (Argentinian-sounding) effects and truly lovely contrasts.

Enjoy!

Oh--I have a really cool arrangement of this piece for cello octet that'll knock your socks off....

I didn't even realize how versatile 8 cellos could be until I heard this! It certainly could inspire some of you to consider a "cello choir" project.

Just let me know and I'll e-mail it to you (free of charge...).
