This i a work i wrote for a competition (didn't win :sadtears:), and is scored for classical guitar (amplified most likely), crotales (or glockenspiel), violin and cello.

It is very Glass-influenced; after studying minimalism at school, this kind of arpeggio-based stuff started flowing. It is based on a chord progression; Em - Bm6 - Cmaj7 - Asus2, and revolves around the key rhythmic motif of the triplet and variations on it.

The title refers to my inspiration for the piece; I wanted to create a work that was sparse and cold, harmonically and timbrally.

I am quite enamoured of this work, and because i plan to use it as part of my folio for my Uni audition, i would really appreciate feedback!

(N.B. ignore the wierd guitar slides; stupid finale gliss thing.)

Thanks in advance! :D

It is beautiful sounding.

The most distinct variation would be Section G. Do you intend to have all your variations fairly homogenous? The listener would find the change in G interesting because of the simplfication of details. The listener would hope to hear more, but the piece moved on to something else. I would like to have bars 60 - 67 repeated or add a few bars more similar style to prolong the interest? A major overhaul would be to reorganise everything from simple to complex and create a climax ending at the end or perhaps, alternate simple with complex to create contrast.

Enjoyed every moment of the piece. Good luck for your Uni Audition.

cupnoodle:thanks so much! The variations/sections sort of moved organically to each new one, so that's why they are in that order

Mr Cosio: I would, but it sounds so bad that i would die. yep.
