Lullaby

Featured Replies

Nice job :D I am no real expert on writing a lullaby, I just wrote that one because my friend asked me to write something for her :innocent: I think yours is nice, it has a good melody. Good work!

Thanks Jen. I appreciate the feedback, and I am glad you liked the melody. I just started this earlier this morning, and think I may add some more to it eventually, altough it's at about 10 mins now.

cool :D Yeah, I pretty much wrote mine in one day too and it was about 9.5 minutes. I am not going to add more to mine, I think it is fine how it is. Yours is good as is, or you could expand on it some, either way :D I like it, again, good job!

I see people have listened to this, but nobody except for Jen gave feedback. Please let me know what you think

ALLEMND.MIDI tweaked this piece just a bit. Some subtleties in the dynamics of the strings, and a litlle twist on the ending....coming back to the original theme, however coming back to it at 75bpm, rather then the 90bpm the first two go arounds.

P.S. I don't have the means to get a midi file for this. If someone would be so kind. i would greatly apreciate it. Thanks

How appropriate: it is 4AM, I need sleep. Let's see if this piece works on me!!!

3:56 AM - [Closes eyes, attempts to sleep as he pushing play.]

3:57 AM - [Opens eyes, I was about to sleep, then the strings came in... so here is a review:]

This piece put the biggest smile on my face! I truly enjoyed it and could easily sleep to it. Very very well done. Let me just recommend a few things that may help it a bit:

- STarting around Measure 77, I found the strings far too strong for sleep (they drew my attention right away, when a lullaby is not meant to do that at all. In other words, they are too engaging to be in a lullaby). I would lighten them somewhat through lesser dynamic contrast and through weaker, more casual and relaxing themes. This seemed like an attack to me that would hinder my sleeping efforts.

- I think the harp should maintain the starring role throughout. I found that when the string took over the "lullaby" feel was lost. When the strings weren't present, the piece was perfect for sleeping.

- I think that the method by which the arco strings come in is rather rough, although this gets much better soon after. My initial thoughts were that you should make them quieter throughout. Then again, you have it marked "ppp", so I figure this is just the playback screwing it up. I would honestly consider either drastically reducing the volume of the strings, or perhaps removing them completely and shifting all thematic material to the harp.

Well, it is 4 AM... I need sleep. Good work again. Loved it!

Thanks for the feedback Cavatina. I was afraid the strings might have been too loud. I still want them there for the added texture, but I think your right. I will drawback the volume on them.

Thanks for the midi Marius. I greatly appreciate it. :excl:
